He joined ESPN in 2011.<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"timestamp \">Nov 18, 2025, 12:35 PM ET<\/span><\/div>\n<p>The No. 12 <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"71774c28-3107-36f7-b5ff-417d929d48ce\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/96\/kentucky-wildcats\">Kentucky Wildcats<\/a> are set to tip off the 2025 State Farm Champions Classic against the No. 17 <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"1ee049af-fdba-6368-9c70-eec74ace759f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/127\/michigan-state-spartans\">Michigan State Spartans<\/a> (6:30 p.m. ET, ESPN), with the No. 5 <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c4430c6c-5998-47d5-7c45-1cdb7ca0befc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/150\/duke-blue-devils\">Duke Blue Devils<\/a> slated to close the night against the No. 24 <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"83fb6648-677a-1a40-715d-5fa16287399a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/2305\/kansas-jayhawks\">Kansas Jayhawks<\/a> (9 p.m. ET, ESPN).<\/p>\n<p>All but one of the 12 games in the past six editions of Champions Classic have been decided by double digits. Could we see another pair of close contests Tuesday?<\/p>\n<p>Men&#8217;s college basketball reporters Myron Medcalf and Jeff Borzello break down what could decide each matchup below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/_end_rule.png\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline editorial float-r\" data-behavior=\"article_related\">\n<h2 class=\"editorial-title\">Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/h2>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/96.png&amp;w=110&amp;h=110.png\" width=\"30\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/127.png&amp;w=110&amp;h=110.png\" width=\"30\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/game\/_\/gameId\/401827221\/michigan-st-kentucky\"><em>6:30 p.m. ET, ESPN<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>How Kentucky could win:<\/strong> Michigan State doesn&#8217;t have a player like <a data-player-guid=\"2db2923f-89bb-30ea-8406-5f92a2b24636\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5101761\/mikel-brown-jr\">Mikel Brown Jr<\/a>. &#8212; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/46886245\/2026-nba-draft-big-board-rankings-top-100-prospects-players\">projected NBA lottery pick<\/a> out of Louisville who scored 29 points in the Cardinals&#8217; win against Kentucky last Tuesday &#8212; but the Wildcats have to be better defensively than they were against their archrivals. They can&#8217;t allow the Spartans to have the same success the Cardinals had with isolation and pick-and-roll plays a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>On offense, Kentucky is at its best when it plays fast but under control. That pace (the Wildcats are 83rd in adjusted tempo, per KenPom) allows <a data-player-guid=\"e813361d-6fa5-3565-a508-68250c0a3020\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5238207\/collin-chandler\">Collin Chandler<\/a> (57% from 3) to get open looks, and <a data-player-guid=\"bf417c1e-deca-3d23-b4dc-e3fc9b4c7845\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5105527\/denzel-aberdeen\">Denzel Aberdeen<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"aa1992e8-3cef-3fc0-a8e5-46fcdaadc2b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5106270\/otega-oweh\">Otega Oweh<\/a> to create shots &#8212; a potential winning formula against Michigan State.<\/p>\n<div data-behavior=\"video_scroll\" class=\"contentItem__content contentItem__content--media-card contentItem__content--fullWidth contentItem__content--inline\">\n<figure data-video=\"watch,640,360,46968981\" data-cerebro-id=\"6917c8fc8d6f73365cac53e1\" data-title=\"Denzel Aberdeen throws down big slam vs. Eastern Illinois Panthers\" class=\"media-wrapper_image video\" data-source=\"espn\" data-contributing-partner=\"wsc\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" \/><span class=\"video-play-button\" data-id=\"46968981\">play<\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\">\n<p>0:23<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"contentItem__contentWrapper\">\n<p>Denzel Aberdeen throws down big slam vs. Eastern Illinois Panthers<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentItem__subhead\">Denzel Aberdeen throws down big slam vs. Eastern Illinois Panthers<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>How Michigan State could win:<\/strong> Michigan State doesn&#8217;t win the talent battle, but Tom Izzo will be the most experienced coach on the floor, a potential key to the game. It will be difficult for the Spartans to win by matching Kentucky&#8217;s pace, but they can replicate Louisville&#8217;s success in exposing the Wildcats&#8217; defensive vulnerabilities in half-court actions.<\/p>\n<p>The Spartans will also have to limit Oweh&#8217;s impact, and force other players to take shots they&#8217;re not accustomed to shooting. Izzo will also need 6-foot-9 freshman <a data-player-guid=\"02f49e3a-68d0-3e51-b39c-872ea23471f6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5101798\/cam-ward\">Cam Ward<\/a> (18 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals in the Nov. 8 win over Arkansas) to play at a high level under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The X factor we haven&#8217;t considered yet:<\/strong> Michigan State is just 9-for-43 from the 3-point line in its past two Champions Classic appearances &#8212; and this season&#8217;s team has made just 21.7% of its shots from beyond the arc (352nd out of 365 Division I programs entering the week). Another cold night for the Spartans from deep might spell doom against a Kentucky team that is top 10 in adjusted offensive efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side, Kentucky coach Mark Pope said <a data-player-guid=\"ea4c5cea-b785-3177-a2c5-1cd6ecee6c40\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/4684270\/jaland-lowe\">Jaland Lowe<\/a>&#8216;s status is undetermined due to injury. If the Pitt transfer is unavailable, Aberdeen will be forced to lead his team and avoid foul trouble. A couple of early fouls on the Florida transfer, arguably the Wildcats&#8217; best defensive player, could change the outcome of this game. <em>&#8212; Medcalf<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/150.png&amp;w=110&amp;h=110.png\" width=\"30\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2305.png&amp;w=110&amp;h=110.png\" width=\"30\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/game\/_\/gameId\/401817232\/kansas-duke\"><em>9 p.m. ET, ESPN<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Editor&#8217;s note: <\/strong>After this story was published, Kansas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/story\/_\/id\/47011608\/kansas-star-freshman-darryn-peterson-hamstring-vs-duke\">announced<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5041955\/darryn-peterson\">Darryn Peterson<\/a> (hamstring) will not play on Tuesday night. The following has been updated to reflect that news.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>How Duke could win:<\/strong> These teams have a noticeable talent gap, especially with Peterson out.<\/p>\n<p>Duke didn&#8217;t look efficient offensively in the first half of its season opener against Texas, but the Blue Devils have been firing on all cylinders since. <a data-player-guid=\"da7388f4-9ebf-3817-b810-a0711c384656\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5041935\/cameron-boozer\">Cameron Boozer<\/a> has been as productive as expected (more on that below), but the perimeter balance has been effective, too. Duke has made 36 3s over its past three games, with <a data-player-guid=\"ea322bd0-1f96-37a2-abe5-7dc7596d5c50\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5287474\/dame-sarr\">Dame Sarr<\/a> beginning to emerge and <a data-player-guid=\"fec6f9fc-c5d9-3fab-a3b9-280f77699357\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/4873209\/patrick-ngongba-ii\">Patrick Ngongba II<\/a> being an anchor inside. Kansas couldn&#8217;t stop North Carolina once the Tar Heels got going in the second half of the Jayhawks&#8217; Nov. 7 loss, and I expect a repeat of that Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline float-r inline-track\">\n<h2 class=\"img-title\">All of ESPN. Can they find any level of success limiting Boozer&#8217;s touches near the rim &#8212; the way Texas did on Nov. 4 &#8212; with some combination of <a data-player-guid=\"bca74454-8b6e-379a-b2e3-992ff739329e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5044426\/flory-bidunga\">Flory Bidunga<\/a>, <a data-player-guid=\"482903b8-62df-330c-b37c-4c6086d88aa1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5105643\/tre-white\">Tre White<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"84b4c7bc-7761-3282-abce-2b9856bea72b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5041958\/bryson-tiller\">Bryson Tiller<\/a>? Without Peterson, Kansas&#8217; offense has run through Bidunga, who will need to be aggressive against Ngongba and <a data-player-guid=\"d7aafb78-13eb-3c4a-9bde-bc5f7b8b39bc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5105337\/maliq-brown\">Maliq Brown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Self has a variety of battle-tested veteran wings; White, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5177301\/melvin-council-jr\">Melvin Council Jr.<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"ad5d8997-315e-3b9d-91f7-f57ede1de94c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5105964\/jayden-dawson\">Jayden Dawson<\/a> will also have to step up if Kansas wants to keep up with Duke&#8217;s firepower.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does Boozer have to do to close the gap in the race for the No. 1 pick?<\/strong> Boozer has continued to be productive, finishing with 35 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals against Indiana State on Friday. We should expect more massive stat lines in Tuesday&#8217;s game &#8212; and in upcoming matchups against Florida, Michigan State and Texas Tech &#8212; which will keep him in the conversation for the top pick.
