\n Jenna Ortega<\/a>, star of Tim Burton\u2019s Netflix hit Wednesday<\/em>, is making history at the Marrakech Film Festival<\/a> this year as its youngest ever jury member.<\/p>\n \n The 23-year-actress joins a jury presided over by Cannes Palme d\u2019Or and Oscar-winning Parasite<\/em> director Bong Joon Ho. <\/p>\n \n Asked if she was holding her own in the face of her older, storied jury members, Ortega seemed to be relishing the experience.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not intimated because I think I\u2019m so overwhelmed with gratitude. I think it would be a shame to come into this experience and be weighed down by some external pressure,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \n The other jury members include Palme d\u2019Or winner Julia Ducournau (Titane<\/em>), Oscar nominee Celine Song (Past Lives<\/em>), Berlinale Best Actor winner Payman Maadi (A Separation<\/em>) as well as Mad Max<\/em> star Anya Taylor-Joy and respected auteur directors Karim A\u00efnouz and Hakim Belabbes.<\/p>\n \n They are judging 14 first and second films<\/a> which include Akinola Davies Jr.\u2019s drama\u00a0My Father\u2019s Shadow,<\/em>\u00a0Zamo Mkhwanazi\u2019s Apartheid era drama\u00a0Laundry,\u00a0<\/em>Morad Mostafa\u2019s\u00a0Aisha Can\u2019t Fly Away<\/em>\u00a0and Erige Sehiri\u2019s\u00a0Promised Sky<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n \u201cAt the end of the day, we\u2019re all on the same team. We\u2019re here to have a discussion about film, an honest discussion and I tend to be a pretty honest person, it\u2019s very hard for me to put up a front,\u201d she said \u201cObviously I have the utmost respect and have looked up to so many of these directors and filmmakers for such a long time. \u00a0More than anything, I just want to be as present as possible,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \n Earlier in the day, Ortega had joined a discussion about the impact of AI on cinema<\/a> during the jury press conference, saying she was terrified about the ramifications of the technology and that it felt like a Pandora\u2019s box had been opened. <\/p>\n \n Ortega acknowledged that her recent role in Taika Waititi\u2019s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro\u2019s poignant tale Klara and the Sun<\/a> <\/em>had fed into her thoughts about the future impact of AI technology. The story revolves around a solar-powered AI robot girl purchased as a companion for a gravely ill teenager.<\/p>\n \n \u201cIt\u2019s been a while since I shot the film, but it\u2019s entirely about that. And I remember some of the conversations we were even having was in relation to 2001, not comparing the movie to 2001 specifically, but that film is really interesting, because almost the most humane character is the robot,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n \n \u201cSo, yeah, I think about it often, but I try not to let that influence or intimidate me in any way, shape or form, because the only way to come and deal with these hardships is to face them forward and not turn away and not shy away.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Jenna Ortega, star of Tim Burton\u2019s Netflix hit Wednesday, is making history at the Marrakech Film Festival this year as its youngest ever jury member.
