\n Stephen King<\/a> had one condition for the film adaptation of his book, The Long Walk<\/a><\/em>: He wanted a lot of brutal violence.<\/p>\n \n During a recent interview with The Times U.K.<\/a><\/em>, the prolific author criticized the way violence is depicted in superhero movies, such as some in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Studios. Oftentimes, those films don\u2019t show the realistic, gory consequences of violence, despite there being a lot of destruction.<\/p>\n \n \u201cIf you look at these superhero movies, you\u2019ll see\u2026some supervillain who\u2019s destroying whole city blocks but you never see any blood,\u201d King said. \u201cAnd man, that\u2019s wrong. It\u2019s almost, like, pornographic.\u201d<\/p>\n \n He added of the way violence is presented in The Long Walk<\/a><\/em>, \u201cI said, if you\u2019re not going to show it, don\u2019t bother. And so they made a pretty brutal movie.\u201d<\/p>\n \n The Long Walk<\/em>, based on King\u2019s 1979 dystopian horror novel, follows a group of teenage boys who compete in an annual contest known as \u201cThe Long Walk,\u201d where they must maintain a certain walking speed or get killed. The last remaining walker wins the contest. The movie was directed by Francis Lawrence, with a script penned by J.T. Mollner.<\/p>\n \n Superhero movies will typically avoid graphic violence to appeal to a broader audience, including families and younger viewers.
