Matt Campbell brought a few noteworthy off-the-field staff members with him to Penn State<\/a> from Iowa State this week, but he has now made his first important on-field hires. And they\u2019re all former Cyclones. <\/p>\n Taylor Mouser will be the Penn State<\/a> offensive coordinator after his second season in the role at ISU. Ryan Clanton (offensive line) and Deon Broomfield (secondary defensive coordinator) will also follow Campbell.<\/p>\n Their names officially popped up with their titles in the Penn State directory on Friday. Penn State On3<\/a> pointed out the news first.<\/p>\n With these hires, that spells the impending departures of Penn State OC Andy Kotelnicki and OL coach Phil Trautwein. Broomfield\u2019s role is somewhat ambiguous, however, which makes safeties coach Anthony Poindexter\u2019s future unclear. Broomfield was the safeties coach and passing game coordinator at Iowa State.<\/p>\n Mouser has been with Campbell in various roles since their days at Toledo in 2015. He\u2019s worked as the tight ends coach at Iowa State and as in the scouting department.<\/p>\n As the offensive play caller in 2024, Mouser\u2019s Iowa State group was 41st in scoring, 39th in yardage and 18th in plays of 20-plus yards nationally. In 2025, they took a slight step back to 60th in scoring, 63rd in yardage and 63rd in explosive plays.<\/p>\n Clanton, a former Oregon captain and national title winner, joined Campbell in 2023 and made an immediate impact. The Cyclones\u2019 rushing attack has improved from 103rd to 70th and finally to 51st nationally over the past three seasons. Iowa State also saw tackle Jalen Travis drafted in the fourth round this year, the first offensive lineman picked from the school since 2013.<\/p>\n Finally, Broomfield played at Iowa State and just finished his fifth season on Campbell\u2019s coaching staff.
