{"id":1470,"date":"2025-09-07T10:10:02","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T10:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=1470"},"modified":"2025-09-07T10:10:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T10:10:05","slug":"gen-v-season-2-has-major-connections-to-the-boys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=1470","title":{"rendered":"Gen V season 2 has major connections to The Boys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>Summer vacation is over and school is back in session at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.godolkinuniversity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Godolkin University<\/a>, the school for superheroes at the center of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/23886025\/boys-gen-v-review-spinoff-mcu-superheroes\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Gen V<\/em><\/a>, a YA-themed (though still very much adult) spin-off of Prime Video\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/reviews\/24176428\/the-boys-season-4-review-new\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Boys<\/em><\/a>. Ahead of the show\u2019s season 2 premiere on Sept. 17, Polygon talked with co-showrunner Michele Fazekas about tapping into the political climate, finding new ways to shock audiences, and the plotlines and characters running across the Prime Video franchise.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><em>Gen V<\/em> season 2 centers on a secret project dating back to the school\u2019s founding in 1967, one that\u2019s highly important to <em>The Boys<\/em>\u2019 heroes and villains. Fazekas says there is also a connection to the upcoming prequel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/sdcc\/24207080\/the-boys-prequel-vought-rising-announced\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Vought Rising<\/em><\/a>, which will follow two of the world\u2019s first supes and the corporation that has monetized superpowers. Fazekas says the showrunners and writers talk regularly about their plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[<em>The Boys <\/em>showrunner] Eric Kripke will say, \u2018Oh hey, FYI, we\u2019re doing this story,\u2019 or \u2018Can you address this?\u2019 and sometimes we\u2019ll have a storyline that Eric will be like, \u2018Oh, I like this,\u201d Fazekas says. \u201cSo it\u2019s very fluid.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"body-img landscape \">\n<div class=\"responsive-img  image-expandable  img-article-item\" style=\"padding-bottom:66.666666666667%\" data-img-url=\"https:\/\/static0.polygonimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/genv_s2_ut_201_240528_savjas_00386r_cropc_3000.jpg\" data-modal-id=\"single-image-modal\" data-modal-container-id=\"single-image-modal-container\" data-img-caption=\"&quot;Photo:\u00a0Jasper Savage\/Prime Video&quot;\">\n<figure>\n<p>                <small class=\"body-img-caption\">Photo:\u00a0Jasper Savage\/Prime Video<\/small><br \/>\n        <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> Kripke provides feedback not just on <em>Gen V<\/em>\u2019s plot, but on its humor. The<em> <\/em>Boys<em> <\/em>franchise is highly meta, combining references to real-world TV shows and movies with supe-driven versions, like a spin on Dog the Bounty Hunter<em> <\/em>who uses a heightened sense of smell to track his targets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019ve learned about Eric Kripke is, he loves a pop-culture reference that only three people know,\u201d Fazekas says. \u201cHe thinks that\u2019s the funniest thing. In the first season, we had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paleycenter.org\/events\/paleyfest\" target=\"_blank\">PaleyFest<\/a> joke that he thought was so funny. I think the more niche a joke is, for him, that\u2019s great. [So we\u2019re] always trying things out \u2014 what\u2019s going to be funny, what\u2019s going to be weird, what\u2019s going to not feel like how other shows do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Gen V <\/em>shares <em>The Boys<\/em>\u2019 sensibilities when it comes to over-the-top violence and ridiculous scenarios. Season 2 kicks off with a group of people taking an experimental drug and dying in a variety of spectacular ways, like spontaneous combustion, their flesh melting off, and their organs falling out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s crazy. College campuses have become a <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/colleges-center-culture-wars-analysis\/story?id=112988931\" target=\"_blank\">major front in the culture wars<\/a>, and <em>Gen V <\/em>tackles those themes head-on. In season 2, the political ascension of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/8\/15\/20805877\/the-boys-amazon-prime-studios-homelander-antony-starr-evil-superman-stories-superdickery\" target=\"_blank\">psychotic Superman equivalent<\/a> Homelander (Antony Starr) and the revelation that Godolkin\u2019s former dean was trying to kill all supes has turned most of the students against people without powers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always want to take the real-world thing and think, <em>How can we put that through the lens of our world?<\/em> It\u2019s not interesting to me to just replicate what\u2019s happening in the news. How can we make it have meaning in our world?\u201d Fazekas says. \u201c[This season, we&#8217;re addressing] this whole identity-politics thing [where] there are good categories of people and there are bad categories, and whoever\u2019s in charge gets to define who is good and who is bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plans for <em>Gen V <\/em>season 2 changed dramatically when star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/24150137\/gen-v-chance-perdomo-recast-character\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chance Perdomo died<\/a> in a motorcycle accident on the way to begin filming. The team quickly decided they wouldn\u2019t recast him, and scrapped the five episodes they had already written. They penned a new season where Perdomo\u2019s metal-controlling character, Andre Anderson, died while trying to escape the prison he and his friends were locked in at the end of season 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew from the beginning that we wanted to honor Chance and honor Andre,\u201d Fazekas says. \u201cBy the time we got to the end of the season, we looked back and we\u2019re like, <em>This whole season\u2019s about him<\/em>, which was somewhat intentional, and somewhat just organically happened. I\u2019m really proud of it. Really, all of the thrust is about Andre in a great way, and all of the emotional moments that happened were about Andre.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p> <em>The first three episodes of<\/em> Gen V <em>season 2 premiere Sept. 17 on Prime Video.
