FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) — <\/span>Fremont police are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting late Friday night when an unknown suspect opened fire at a parking lot leaving two people killed.<\/p>\n Officers responded around 11:12 p.m. to the 6000 block of Stevenson Boulevard after reports of shots fired, police said.<\/p>\n It happened near the Royal Palace Banquet Hall.<\/p>\n Police say a vehicle drove up to the victims and fired multiple shots.<\/p>\n One person died on scene. A second person died at the hospital. Initially, there were reports of a third victim. But on Saturday, Fremont police clarified that there were just two victims.<\/p>\n A Royal Palace employee confirmed to ABC7 News that it was closed on Saturday because there was no scheduled function and not because of the shooting.<\/p>\n Saturday evening, the Undrwrld Car Club<\/a> met in the Globe Mall Plaza in Fremont where car enthusiasts show off their cars.<\/p>\n MORE: 2 killed, multiple injured in separate shootings overnight in Oakland, police say<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n “Every Friday or Saturday we host events here and they are usually very safe. We get about 100 to 200 people,” says Jack Chin, the club president.<\/p>\n Chin admits he wasn’t sure how many people would show up since it is being held in same strip mall as Friday night’s fatal shootings.<\/p>\n “I think that maybe some people were a little afraid to come out. They are worried that something else like that may happen,” says Chin.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, there was police activity in 1400 block of Shafter Avenue in San Francisco Satruday evening. The San Francisco Police Department directed ABC7 News to contact Fremont police to ask if it was connected to Friday’s shooting.<\/p>\n Fremont police did not return requests for an interview. But on social media, it did confirm that this is the city’s third and fourth homicide of this year.<\/p>\n “I don’t feel safe. I’m thinking about my kid. I mean I moved out of Oakland to live here, in the suburbs. And even here, it just doesn’t feel safe,” says Steven Lee, a Fremont resident who came out to the strip mall for dinner with his wife and infant son.<\/p>\n Lee grew up in Fremont. He is hoping this is just a one-off shooting and that it doesn’t lead to any kind of escalation in violence.<\/p>\n “Crazy times. This is out of the ordinary. I feel like – things need to be nipped in the bud so that it doesn’t spread. Or doesn’t happen again,” says Lee.<\/p>\n The City of Fremont and the police department both issued condolences to the victims’ families.<\/p>\n The homicides are the third and fourth of 2025 in Fremont, according to the Fremont Police Department.<\/p>\n Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the Fremont Police Department’s Investigations Unit at (510) 790-6900.
