That marked the largest single-day flow of new funds into the trust, almost double the previous peak recorded during the &#8220;silver squeeze&#8221; of 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Silver has just become retail&#8217;s new [favorite] toy,&#8221; Vanda analyst Ashwin Bhakre wrote on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Monday&#8217;s rush came as the Silver Trust climbed nearly 6%, driving its 2026 rally to more than 52% and extending last year&#8217;s nearly 145% advance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Collapsible-proliveCollapsableContainer\" role=\"button\"><title>Stock Chart Icon<\/title>Stock chart icon<\/p>\n<div class=\"Collapsible-proLivePlayerCloseOrExpand\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The SLV ETF, year to date<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Last week, silver topped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/23\/gold-prices-ease-on-profit-taking-after-nearing-5000-mark.html\">$100 an ounce <\/a>for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Bhakre said silver has surpassed technology stocks to become the epicenter of retail fervor. <\/p>\n<p>Well-known tech stocks including <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\">Nvidia<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/TSLA\/\">Tesla<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/PLTR\/\">Palantir<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> were among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/12\/25\/palantir-retail-investors-valuation-karp.html\">most bought individual names<\/a> by mom-and-pop traders in 2025, according to Vanda.<\/p>\n<p>But silver is now an even hotter trade than Nvidia, the high-flying artificial intelligence beneficiary that has enchanted Wall Street since late 2022. Silver&#8217;s turnover momentum, which gauges trading acceleration, has jumped to 11.55 times its normal level \u2014 higher than Nvidia&#8217;s 7.54 times.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, &#8220;in relative terms, the &#8216;chase&#8217; in silver is now more intense than the classic AI trade,&#8221; Bhakre said.<\/p>\n<p>Heightened interest in silver, once known as <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@dimple.developments\/silver-the-poor-mans-gold-16b4af9d456c\" target=\"_blank\">the poor man&#8217;s gold<\/a>, has a &#8220;halo effect&#8221; for mining stocks, Bhakre said. <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/HL\/\">Hecla Mining<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-9\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/CDE\/\">Coeur Mining<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> have seen flows of new cash jump to more than twice their normal pace, Vanda data shows. Hecla and Coeur shares have soared almost 40% or more just since New Year&#8217;s. <\/p>\n<p>But Bhakre said investors are waging a &#8220;two-front war&#8221; in silver.<\/p>\n<p>On the bearish side, Vanda found abnormally high flow ratios into the <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ZSL\/\">ProShares UltraShort Silver (ZSL)<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>, showing plenty of individual investors are making leveraged bets that the price will crash, Bhakre said.<\/p>\n<p>Still, retail investors no longer appear to just be looking to play a squeeze on precious metal prices, Bhakre said.
