{"id":19090,"date":"2026-02-02T07:04:56","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T07:04:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=19090"},"modified":"2026-02-02T07:04:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T07:04:59","slug":"bitcoin-dips-below-79000-after-silver-selloff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=19090","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin dips below $79,000 after silver selloff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"RegularArticle-ArticleBody-5\" data-module=\"ArticleBody\" data-test=\"articleBody-2\" data-analytics=\"RegularArticle-articleBody-5-2\"><span class=\"HighlightShare-hidden\" style=\"top:0;left:0\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbed\" id=\"ArticleBody-InlineImage-108239359\" data-test=\"InlineImage\">\n<div class=\"InlineImage-wrapper\">\n<div>Bitcoin signage in Times Square in New York, Dec. 9, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Nagle | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana slumped as retail traders digested a busy market week that saw wild swings in commodities and a long-awaited announcement by President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> on his choice for the next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/federal-reserve\/\">Federal Reserve<\/a> chairman.<\/p>\n<p>In late trading Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BTC.CM=\/\">bitcoin<\/a>, the \u2060world&#8217;s largest cryptocurrency \u200dby \u200dmarket \u200dvalue, sank below $79,000, down 6.1%. <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ETH.CM=\/\">Ethereum<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> slid about 9% to $2,445.31,\u00a0while <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SOL.CM=\/\">Solana<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\" \/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> lost 9.9% at $105.50.<\/p>\n<p>The slide in crypto comes in the wake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/30\/who-is-kevin-warsh-trumps-fed-chair-pick.html\">Trump&#8217;s selection<\/a> of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/kevin-warsh\/\">Kevin Warsh<\/a>\u00a0to lead the Fed, which bolstered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/30\/dollar-holds-higher-after-warsh-announced-as-fed-chair.html\">U.S. dollar<\/a> as it eased concerns about the central bank&#8217;s independence. Dollar strength may reduce bitcoin&#8217;s appeal among investors as an alternative currency.<\/p>\n<p>If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Warsh would replace sitting Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/jay-powell\/\">Jerome Powell<\/a>. Powell&#8217;s current term as chair ends in May. Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/13\/trump-powell-fed-dimon-pirro-doj.html\">criticized Powell<\/a> \u2014 particularly about his unwillingness to reduce interest rates \u2014 almost since the Fed chair took the job in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The slide in crypto is the latest blow to retail investors, who were buffeted by a sharp selloff in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/XAG=\/\">spot silver<\/a> on Friday, the worst day for the market since March 1980. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/XAG=\/\">Spot silver<\/a>\u00a0was down 28% at $83.45 an ounce, trading near its lows of the day.
