The 33-year-old received a non-roster invitation to MLB spring training.<\/p>\n<p>Slater will earn $2 million if he makes the MLB roster, plus a potential $500,000 in incentives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">BIG NEWS: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/tigers\/2026\/02\/10\/justin-verlander-detroit-tigers-contract-2026\/88608311007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Verlander signs with Tigers for 1 year, $13 million<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2025, Slater hit .216 with five home runs, 11 walks and 51 strikeouts across 65 games for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/chicago-white-sox\/228\" data-autotag=\"d5333560-8140-4679-b3e4-0675efb2456e\">Chicago White Sox<\/a> (51 games) and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/new-york-yankees\/234\" data-autotag=\"cb5e82cb-8b3a-430a-b783-5602eeb36bc3\">New York Yankees<\/a> (14 games). As a right-handed hitter, he had a .224 batting average with a .726 OPS in 93 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers.<\/p>\n<p>He has a track record of success in matchups with against lefties.<\/p>\n<p>Slater has played 699 games in his nine-year MLB career, for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/san-francisco-giants\/250\" data-autotag=\"0b0e199f-7ea3-4920-a9f1-2be8047f1198\">San Francisco Giants<\/a> (2017-24), Cincinnati Reds (2024), Baltimore Orioles (2024), White Sox (2025) and Yankees (2025).<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers have expressed interest in Slater for multiple years.
