She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goupstate.com\/story\/news\/1994\/08\/20\/9-year-old-dies-in-fall-at-chimney-rock\/20812020007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">died during a family hiking trip<\/a>\u00a0when she was 9 years old after she fell off a cliff.<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/08\/celebrity-news\/nick-viall-and-wife-natalie-joy-face-backlash-for-insensitive-questions-about-austen-krolls-sisters-death\/#\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt honestly kind of broke my heart for him,\u201d Carson said of watching the interview. \u201cI called him to see if he was OK because I\u2019m like, \u2018I am so sorry that must have been so hard.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reality star told hosts Danny Murphy and Evan Real that the questions about Kroll\u2019s late sister seemed to \u201cjust [come] out of nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Carson questioned if the couple chose to apologize privately because they \u201cdon\u2019t really want to admit that it was wrong.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Brian Zak\/Page Six<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Kroll appeared on the couple\u2019s \u201cViall Files\u201d podcast last month, during which they pressed him on his older sister Kyle (pictured here) \u2014 who died at age 9 after falling off a cliff. <span class=\"credit\">krollthewarriorking\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI could tell he was uncomfortable because his leg was shaking. I\u2019ve been friends with him for a while and I haven\u2019t asked [about Kyle]. That\u2019s something that I feel like he should bring up when he feels comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carson, 31, also agreed with Real and Murphy that the uncomfortable moment should have been edited out of the podcast episode if the pair were truly sorry.<\/p>\n<p>Reps for Viall, Joy and Kroll were not immediately available to Page Six for comment. <\/p>\n<p>During the uncomfortable Jan. 7 interview, Joy told Kroll, \u201cQuickly jumping out of\u00a0\u2018Southern Charm,\u2019 I\u2019m sure we\u2019re gonna jump right back into it, but going into your childhood, I didn\u2019t know this about your sister passing at 9.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cIt honestly kind of broke my heart for him,\u201d Carson said of watching the interview. \u201cI called him to see if he was OK.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Michael SeRine\/Bravo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cI could tell he was uncomfortable because his leg was shaking. I\u2019ve been friends with him for a while and I haven\u2019t asked [about Kyle].\u201d <span class=\"credit\">salleycarson\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kroll, 38, replied, \u201cOkay we are switching gears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joy continued to ask more personal questions, including what age he was when the tragedy happened and if he was there when his sister fell.<\/p>\n<p>When he confirmed he was there to witness the tragedy, Joy further questioned him, asking, \u201cWhat was this cliff?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kroll looked uncomfortable as he shook his leg repeatedly and declined to name the town where the tragedy took place.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>During the Jan. 7 interview, Joy and Viall awkwardly segued into the topic of his sister\u2019s dramatic death and wouldn\u2019t let it go even though Kroll looked uncomfortable.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure Bravolebrities immediately called out Viall, 45, and Joy, 26, on social media for the line of questioning.<\/p>\n<p>Kroll\u2019s \u201cSouthern Charm\u201d co-star Rodrigo Reyes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/southern-charms-rodrigo-slams-nick-vialls-wife-for-austen-kroll-question\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commented of Joy<\/a>, \u201cShe\u2019s a POS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Valley\u201d star Janet Caperna commented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DTQth_yjOm7\/?igsh=MTU1MnV3ZWRsOTY4Ng%3D%3D&amp;img_index=6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in an Instagram post<\/a>,\u00a0criticizing the interview, \u201cThis was so f\u2013ked\u2026even for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This wasn\u2019t the first time that the duo got into some hot water because of comments made on the podcast.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Fans and Bravolebrities alike, including Kroll\u2019s co-star Rodrigo Reyes, slammed the couple for their line of mom-shaming comments<\/a> about \u201cSecret Lives of Mormon Wives\u201d star Whitney Leavitt. <\/p>\n<p>During the episode, the pair raised questions about Leavvitt\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/01\/celebrity-news\/whitney-leavitt-to-make-broadway-debut-as-roxie-hart-in-chicago\/\"> venture as Roxie in the Broadway play \u201cChicago\u201d<\/a> and many felt they insinuated that her children weren\u2019t her top priority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVanderpump Rules\u201d alum Stassi Schroeder subsequently called them out on her \u201cStassi\u201d podcast,
