As one of the leading young actors in British cinema thanks to starring roles in films such as \u201cRocketman\u201d and the \u201cKingsman\u201d series, Egerton has long been tipped as one of the names to take over as James Bond.<\/p>\n
In a new red carpet interview with Variety AU\/NZ<\/em>, however, Egerton insisted he doesn\u2019t see himself as the iconic spy.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m right for James Bond,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve never felt that that was me.<\/p>\n Egerton continued: \u201cI think there\u2019s great candidates for it, and I think it\u2019s obviously a huge cinematic institution. I don\u2019t want to be dismissive about it as a thing. I just feel that my path is less\u2026 kind of grand and idealised.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s not the first time Egerton has dismissed Bond talk.<\/p>\n He told Collider<\/em><\/a> in a 2025 interview that he didn\u2019t think he was the right fit for\u00a0Amazon\u2019s new iteration of the iconic franchise.<\/p>\n When asked if he\u2019d throw his hat in the ring for the part, Egerton said: \u201cNo. And I don\u2019t think I\u2019m a good choice for it. I think I\u2019m too messy for that.\u201d<\/p>\n He added\u00a0that he really loves the character and \u201cparticularly Daniel Craig\u2019s tenure. But I think I wouldn\u2019t be good at it, and I think there\u2019s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably.\u201d<\/p>\n Egerton appeared on the red carpet as Tropfest returned to Sydney\u2019s Centennial Park on Sunday, February 22.<\/p>\n Tropfest had a\u00a0very star-studded jury<\/a> this year, featuring Egerton, \u201cAvatar\u201d and \u201cTitanic\u201d director James Cameron (appearing virtually), Australian filmmaker Danny Philippou, \u201cSuccession\u201d star Sarah Snook, globally acclaimed producer Bruna Papandrea and trailblazing First Nations director Dylan River alongside President Margot Robbie.<\/p>\n Lianne Mackessy (Sydney, NSW) won for her film \u201cCrescendo,\u201d<\/a> with the jury describing it as \u201cabsolutely pitch perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n
