Kentucky’s annual tornado drill is Wednesday, March 4. Here’s what to know.<\/p>\n
No severe weather is expected during the drill, so the National Weather Service (NWS) plans to move forward with the annual test.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
During the drill, NWS will issue a test tornado message that will activate weather alert radios. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
The alert will also activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS), which means it will broadcast on television and radio stations as well.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
In Jefferson County, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said outdoor warning sirens will sound, and Metro Emergency Services will send a simultaneous emergency notification through LENSAlert, the LouReady app, and IPAWS (Wireless Emergency Alert) system.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
\u201cSevere weather can impact all aspects of our community and preparation is one of the most effective tools we have to keep people safe,\u201d Greenberg explained.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
The NWS advised everyone to practice their tornado safety plan during the drill.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
In the event of a real tornado warning, you should take shelter immediately by going to the lowest part of your home, like a basement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
If you don’t have a basement, you should shelter in the most interior room of your home away from exterior walls, doors and windows.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
