\n Get ready for one more trip to Arrakis. Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet has revealed the first look at \u201cDune: Part Three,\u201d the epic finale of Denis Villeneuve<\/a>\u2018s sci-fi trilogy. The movie is currently on the release calendar for Dec. 18, where it will face off against \u201cAvengers: Doomsday.\u201d Chalamet shared a first look at his return via a photo posted on his Instagram story.<\/p>\n

\n In 2024\u2019s \u201cDune: Part Two<\/a>,\u201d which Villeneuve co-wrote with Jon Spaihts, Chalamet returned as the warrior prince and chosen one Paul Atreides, who continued his high-stakes journey with his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) on the dangerous desert planet of Arrakis. Paul joined the native Fremen people and fell in love with a young warrior named Chani (Zendaya), as they fought for their freedom against the evil Harkonnen empire. In the end, Paul defeats the Harkonnens and launches a holy war against the Great Houses with his Fremen army.<\/p>\n

\n The sequel welcomed new faces to the franchise, including Austin Butler as villain Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, daughter of Christopher Walken\u2019s Emperor Shaddam IV. L\u00e9a Seydoux also debuted as Lady Margot of the Bene Gesserit. Villeneuve said multiple times during the \u201cPart Two\u201d press tour that a third \u201cDune\u201d movie would expand the roles for Pugh, Seydoux and Anya-Taylor Joy \u2014 who played the future, grown-up version of Paul\u2019s unborn sister Alia \u2014 all of whom had brief appearances in the sequel. Josh Brolin\u2019s Gurney Halleck and Jason Momoa\u2019s Duncan Idaho will return for \u201cDune 3,\u201d which also cast Robert Pattinson as the villain Scytale.<\/p>\n

\n Legendary Pictures previously <\/a>revealed in August 2024 that it was in development on a third \u201cDune\u201d movie with Villeneuve back in the director\u2019s chair. The movie will be based on Frank Herbert\u2019s second \u201cDune\u201d novel, 1969\u2019s \u201cDune Messiah.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cDune: Part Two\u201d won two Oscars out of five nominations and grossed more than $714 million at the worldwide box office. Before \u201cDune 2\u201d even released, Villeneuve had confirmed in December 2023<\/a> that he was already working on the script for a potential third \u201cDune\u201d movie.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThere\u2019s a dream of making a third movie,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cIt would make absolute sense to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Composer Hans Zimmer had told Variety<\/em><\/a> in 2024 that he was already preparing music for the third film while he was working on \u201cDune 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cDenis comes in on the second day of shooting, and wordlessly comes in and puts \u2018Dune Messiah\u2019 on my desk,\u201d Zimmer said. \u201cI know where we\u2019re going and I know we\u2019re not done.\u201d<\/p>\n
