The agency expects subfreezing temperatures on Monday night as low as 27 degrees, which could negatively impact crops, outdoor vegetation, and plants, and potentially damage outdoor plumbing if not properly protected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">This move back to chilly weather follows a month of spring swings in temperature. April <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/weather\/philadelphia-weather-record-temperature-20260401.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">began with record-setting heat<\/a>, and by the second week, a <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/weather\/freeze-warning-philadelphia-cherry-blossoms-20260408.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">freeze warning was in effect<\/a> that impacted cherry blossoms and other local blooms. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The unusual heat in April is due to <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/weather\/philadelphia-weather-forecast-phillies-cubs-braves-20260413.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">lower than normal rainfall in Philadelphia<\/a> \u2014 and a <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/new-jersey\/new-jersey-drought-climate-change-20251209.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">monthslong drought in New Jersey<\/a> \u2014 coinciding with the lack of shade, as trees are still regrowing their leaves. The highs on Wednesday and Thursday last week were roughly 25 degrees <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/weather\/philadelphia-weather-heat-pollen-forecast-20260415.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">higher<b> <\/b>than normal for previously recorded dates<\/a>, though historically it\u2019s not unusual for the region to see 90-degree days in April. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The abrupt changes in weather <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/weather\/philadelphia-weather-forecast-heat-drought-20260416.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">don\u2019t mean too much<\/a> for predicting summer conditions, but some may see the recent temperature spikes as opportunities to prepare for the impending Philly heat.
