First, the tabloids reported that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce\u2019s wedding would take place in\u00a0mid-June in Watch Hill, Rhode Island<\/a>, where she owns a mansion. Then it was \u201cleaked\u201d<\/a> that save-the-dates had gone out with a July 3 date and New York City location. July 3? New York City? That\u2019s the same weekend as the city\u2019s Fourth of July fireworks, the first-ever Times Square ball drop to mark Independence Day<\/a>, and Sail250<\/a>, the tall-ships event marking the U.S. semi-quincentennial.<\/p>\n

But then again, why not? As our newsroom\u2019s resident Taylor Swift expert<\/a>, Zach Schiffman, noted, the singer famously loves the Fourth of July<\/a>, and her fianc\u00e9\u2019s NFL training schedule resumes at the end of the month. While it might<\/em> be an elaborate ruse to throw paparazzi off the trail, the city\u2019s busiest weekend might provide the perfect storm of distractions to take the focus off America\u2019s royal wedding.<\/p>\n

Here at Curbed, we had our own theories about where the wedding might happen: the Frick<\/a> (super-classy, a brand-new renovation), Ellis Island (it\u2019s an island!), and Rockefeller Center for its Art Deco appeal. I\u2019m voting for City Hall<\/a> (that\u2019s right \u2014 total chaos!), which is as New York as you can get.<\/p>\n

But what do the experts think? I chatted with a number of veteran NYC wedding planners to see where they thought Swift and Kelce would most likely exchange vows and where they would personally recommend. And then I asked Zach to chime in.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne reason I don\u2019t always love celebrity weddings is they\u2019re not that creative,\u201d said Jes Gordon of JesGORDON\/properFUN, who has planned events for Elton John\u2019s AIDS Foundation as well as an after-party for Sting. She predicted a Swift wedding at the Plaza Hotel<\/a> simply because it\u2019s a familiar, tried-and-true event space\u2013hotel. \u201cI kind of hope it\u2019s not there, but it\u2019s easy for them and convenient,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

But if Gordon were in charge? \u201cI\u2019d love for them to have a cool barbecue under the Brooklyn Bridge,\u201d she said. \u201cHow dope would that be?\u201d The vision: Take over the Brooklyn waterfront south of the bridge, where several thousand guests could enjoy the River Caf\u00e9, a spin on Jane\u2019s Carousel, and the Pier 2 Roller Rink. The catch \u2014 it\u2019s a big, unsecured public space. \u201cWe would have to buy permitting for it, and it would cost a shit ton of money. But we have done this in areas of Central Park and other public spaces like the High Line, too,\u201d she said. \u201cIt takes money, power, and a lot of balls.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alyssa Pettinato, the owner of Manhattan-based Alinato Events, who has planned more than 150 weddings in the NYC area, said Swift might choose Oheka Castle<\/a>, where the singer shot the music video for \u201cBlank Space.<\/a>\u201d It\u2019s also the venue she\u2019d recommend.<\/p>\n

Long Island? That\u2019s not New York. But for someone seeking privacy, it makes sense. The secluded Gold Coast estate that was once home to the German-born financier Otto Hermann Kahn is said to have inspired that<\/em> F. Scott Fitzgerald novel<\/a>. One of the largest homes in the U.S., it features a big ballroom and 34 guest rooms and suites. You can get there only by car, and the 22-acre grounds are gated.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of celebrities have gotten married there. It\u2019s an hour outside Manhattan and has an estate kind of vibe \u2014 sort of Newport-esque,\u201d said Pettinato. \u201cPlus there\u2019s a beautiful garden for an outdoor ceremony.\u201d Here, however, Swift would have to go without the New York skyline in the wedding photos.<\/p>\n

Manhattan-based planner Jennifer Zabinski, who designed weddings for both Serena Williams in 2017 <\/a>and her sister Venus<\/a> last December, nominated the Met Cloisters<\/a> in Fort Tryon Park for its medieval architecture and dramatic location that\u2019s \u201chigh, overlooking the Hudson River \u2014 with iconic views.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cloisters doesn\u2019t often allow events on-site,\u201d said Zabinski. \u201cBut we can\u2019t imagine they would refuse Taylor and Travis if they wanted to tie the knot there.\u201d<\/p>\n

This was Zach\u2019s favorite recommendation. \u201cI like that it\u2019s Manhattan but all the way up at the tip,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s something special about it, that they don\u2019t normally do weddings there. I think it\u2019d be very her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Norma Cohen, a self-described \u201c24-hour event planner\u2013therapist\u201d based in Midwood, predicted that Swift will choose the Park Avenue Armory<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s big, secluded, and looks like nothing on the outside,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s completely transformable. I would make the guests feel like they were teleported to another world!\u201d<\/p>\n

Her own proposal, a scheme she cooked up with her daughters, Cookie and Lydia: \u201cRoosevelt Island! It\u2019s unique and it\u2019s outstanding and it stands by itself. It would be unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bottom part with the trees!\u201d said Cohen, who has been in the wedding business for 39 years. \u201cThe Franklin Roosevelt State Park<\/a>. It\u2019s a modern shape \u2014\u00a0it\u2019s a triangle. It looks like an outside museum. And all those trees!\u201d She\u2019d erect a big transparent tent at the tip of the island with a dance floor and an orchestra. Guests could take the tram to get to the wedding, Cohen added. \u201cWe could deck out the tram with flowers. Peonies!\u201d<\/p>\n

Zach approved. \u201cRoosevelt Island is a really good idea,\u201d he said. \u201cIt can be closed off and has a beautiful view. She wants an iconic New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manhattan-based Michelle Rago, who planned the nuptials for Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz<\/a>, said Swift will likely go with the Rainbow Room<\/a> \u2014 and that\u2019s her recommendation as well. Originally opened in 1934, the Art Deco midtown venue has floor-to-ceiling views from the 65th floor. \u201cWhen the sun sets, it\u2019s absolutely magical \u2014 so, so pretty,\u201d said Rago, who has arranged many Rainbow Room ceremonies. \u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of celebrities and well-traveled clients, and they are still gobsmacked by that view.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the rotating dance floor and small stage, perfect for a band: \u201cIt\u2019s just very glamorous, very magical.\u201d The one downside? It seats only 320 guests, and Swift might invite far more.<\/p>\n

I did not ask David Stark, a Bushwick-based event planner\u00a0who has designed events for Glenn Close and Brad Pitt, for his opinion of the Rainbow Room idea, but he gave one anyway.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a lovely New York icon,\u201d he said. \u201cBut she needs something more special.\u201d<\/p>\n

His recommendation: a ceremony and reception on Liberty Island<\/a>, the home base for the Statue of Liberty. \u201cShe\u2019s as American as apple pie, so it feels like an appropriate spot, especially for that time of year,\u201d said Stark. \u201cWe\u2019d have a clear-top tent so you can see the statue, and in a perfect world, there\u2019d be fireworks that you could see from the shore. It\u2019d be incredibly private because you get there by boat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, that\u2019s assuming the affair will actually take place in New York City. Stark is doubtful. \u201cIt could be anywhere in the world,\u201d he said, \u201cand this is all just to throw everyone off the trail.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Zach is optimistic. \u201cNo matter what she does, the wedding is going to be a circus,\u201d he said. \u201cNew York can handle a circus. Rhode Island can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n
