The ship departed from Civitavecchia, Italy, for a two-week cruise to Copenhagen on April 19, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruisemapper.com\/ships\/Sapphire-Princess-733\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CruiseMapper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel changed course to investigate and deployed its Fast Rescue Boat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFive deceased individuals were recovered by the Sapphire Princess crew members and coordinated efforts with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC),\u201d the company said in an emailed statement. The cruise line did not identify the individuals, but confirmed they were not guests or employees from the ship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe extend our sincere condolences for this loss and are grateful to our crew for their swift response and efforts to render assistance,\u201d the cruise line added. The MRCC could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes after another Princess ship, Regal Princess, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/cruises\/2026\/02\/24\/princess-cruise-ship-rescue\/88847749007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rescued four people<\/a> from a small vessel in distress during a Caribbean cruise in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><em>Nathan Diller is a consumer travel reporter for USA TODAY based in Nashville.
