Sharing a production update on social media, Yen posted an image of the film\u2019s clapperboard. He captioned the post, \u201cHere we go\u2026,\u201d confirming that cameras have started rolling on the project.<\/p>\n The film will continue the story of Caine, the blind assassin introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4. In that chapter, the character was forced out of retirement to carry out a mission tied to the High Table. Though Caine eventually secured his freedom by the end of the film, his actions left consequences. He is now being pursued by Akira, played by Rina Sawayama, who seeks revenge for the death of her father, Shimazu Koji. The upcoming film is expected to continue this storyline.<\/p>\n Donnie Yen will not only return as the lead but also direct the film, taking on a dual role in shaping the project. The film was officially announced in spring 2025 at CinemaCon.<\/p>\n The franchise has expanded significantly since the first film\u2019s release in 2014.
