They accused SpaceX of gross negligence and trespassing from sonic booms that happened during 11 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/space\/spacex-starship-test-flight-launch-date-b2958898.html\">rocket tests<\/a> between April 2023 and October 2025, according to the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2026\/05\/01\/spacex-south-texas-home-damage-lawsuit\/\"><em>Texas Tribune<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em> <\/p>\n<p>Because SpaceX tests involved rockets that launched and returned, sometimes the homes faced prolonged periods of damaging noise, according to the suit.<\/p>\n<p>A sonic boom is a wave created by an object moving faster than the speed of sound. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104540\/sonic-boom\/\">According to the U.S. Air Force<\/a>, some strong sonic booms can cause damage such as shattered glass. <\/p>\n<p>SpaceX did not respond to the <em>Tribune<\/em> about the lawsuit. <em>The Independent<\/em> has also reached out to SpaceX. <\/p>\n<div class=\"sc-awdjp1-2 cbpRGD sc-awdjp1-3 image align-center\">\n<figure class=\"sc-1cbdeug-0 cXcwgU\">\n<div data-gallery-length=\"2\" class=\"sc-awdjp1-0 fRUfcB\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"sc-1cbdeug-1 sc-1cbdeug-3 YlsWU hgzWpY\">Some South Texas residents are suing Elon Musk\u2019s SpaceX claiming sonic booms from rocket launches have damaged their homes<span class=\"sc-1cbdeug-7 gjqsiM\"> <!-- -->(<!-- -->AFP via Getty Images<!-- -->)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The residents say that during a Starship rocket launch in 2023, the force from the 33-engine booster destroyed the launch pad and sent debris as far as three-quarters of a mile away. <\/p>\n<p>Specific damage to the homes was not included in the lawsuit, according to the <em>Tribune<\/em>. However, the filing stated that booms can cause damage to walls, windows and roofs. <\/p>\n<p>The filing asks for an unspecified amount of money. <\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration in 2025 authorized SpaceX to launch up to 25 rockets per year from South Texas, according to the <em>Tribune<\/em>. That is five times more than the year before. <\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/topic\/spacex\">SpaceX<\/a> has also seen massive growth in the South Texas region in recent years. That issue has led to a separate lawsuit about how often the company can close the area. <\/p>\n<p>SpaceX was founded in 2002 and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/topic\/elon-musk\">Musk<\/a> currently serves as the company\u2019s CEO.
