His identity was not released.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-621ffd\" class=\"body-graf\">The park said that \u201chis injuries are consistent with those sustained by a bear encounter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ea1e10\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cWildlife and law enforcement personnel are currently assessing the area for bear activity and any ongoing public safety concerns. The investigation is ongoing,\u201d the park said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-20729a\" class=\"body-graf\">The body was found 2\u00bd miles up the Mount Brown Trail, \u201cin a densely wooded area with downed timber\u201d about 50 feet off the trail, the park said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ff8f4a\" class=\"body-graf\">It\u2019s the first deadly bear attack in Glacier National Park since 1998 and the first attack by a bear in the park since August, it said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-4bbe53\" class=\"body-graf\">Around 1,000 bears live in Glacier National Park, including black bears and grizzlies, according to the park. An estimated 300 grizzly bears were living in the park<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/glac\/learn\/news\/grizzly-monitoring-to-begin-in-glacier-park.htm\" target=\"_blank\"> in 2023<\/a>, it said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-46c2ae\" class=\"body-graf\">Glacier National Park did not name the victim and said it was waiting for 72 hours after his family is notified.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-89a839\" class=\"body-graf\">On Wednesday, it said search efforts were underway for a hiker who had been missing since Sunday. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-7492c9\" class=\"body-graf\">That hiker \u201chad communicated plans to hike toward the Mt. Brown Fire Lookout,\u201d it said. The last known message was around 8:20 p.m. Sunday, and the park was notified he was missing on Monday, it said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-99a8dc\" class=\"body-graf\">The discovery of the remains at Glacier National Park comes days <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/2-hikers-injured-bear-attack-yellowstone-trail-rcna343787\" target=\"_blank\">after two hikers were seriously injured in a bear attack<\/a> in Yellowstone National Park, which is mostly in Wyoming. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b11ee2\" class=\"body-graf\">Those hikers, ages 15 and 28, were injured Monday and airlifted by helicopter.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-1d82e2\" class=\"endmark body-graf\">In that attack, \u201cpark staff believe a female grizzly bear with two or three cubs-of-the-year (cubs in their first year of life) were involved in the encounter,\u201d Yellowstone National Park <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/yell\/learn\/news\/26008.htm\" target=\"_blank\">said Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/missing-hiker-found-dead-suspected-bear-attack-glacier-national-park-rcna344164\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The remains of a hiker reported missing in Montana\u2019s Glacier National Park was found Wednesday, and a bear attack is suspected, the park said Thursday.
