\n Get ready, riders: The long-gestating \u201cFourth Wing<\/a>\u201d TV adaptation has been ordered to series at Amazon<\/a>\u2018s Prime Video.<\/p>\n \n Based on the best-selling \u201cThe Empyrean\u201d romantasy book series<\/a> from author Rebecca Yarros, \u201cFourth Wing\u201d is set inside the brutal world of Basgiath War College, where there is only one rule: graduate or die. Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was always expected to live a quiet life \u2014 but she\u2019s sent on an entirely different path when her mother, a general in the military, orders her to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become dragon riders, the elite of Navarre.<\/p>\n \n Yarros\u2019 \u201cThe Empyrean\u201d book series began with the release of New York Times best-seller \u201cFourth Wing\u201d in May 2023, followed by sequel \u201cIron Flame\u201d in November 2023 and third book \u201cOnyx Storm\u201d in January 2025. The titles and release dates for the planned fourth and fifth books have not yet been announced.<\/p>\n \n \u201cFourth Wing\u201d executive producer Michael B. Jordan announced the series pickup at the end of Amazon\u2019s upfront presentation to TV advertisers at the Beacon Theatre on Monday.<\/p>\n \n Jordan didn\u2019t have much he could say just yet, only that after acquiring the rights and bringing the project into development at Amazon MGM Studios, his Outlier Society production company and the studio needed to find the right team to take Yarros\u2019 romantasy book series to TV. That group includes Yarros herself, as well as HBO\u2019s \u201cWestworld\u201d co-creator Lisa Joy (who is an executive producer and will direct the first episode of \u201cFourth Wing\u201d) and showrunner Meredith Averill (who co-created Netflix\u2019s \u201cLocke & Key\u201d).<\/p>\n \n Additional executive producers include Outlier president Elizabeth Raposo, as well as Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham of Kilter Films. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark are executive producing for Premeditated Productions, the sister company to \u201cFourth Wing\u201d publisher Entangled Publishing. Outlier Society executive vice president of TV, Stefano Agosto, will co-executive produce.<\/p>\n \n First put into development in October 2023, the \u201cFourth Wing\u201d TV series was stalled until last September, when Averill joined as showrunner<\/a> following the exit of Moira Walley-Beckett (\u201cAnne With an E\u201d creator and \u201cBreaking Bad\u201d writer), who had signed on as the project\u2019s original showrunner in the summer of 2024.<\/p>\n \n \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be working with this dedicated, experienced team and grateful for their passion for both the books and the readership behind them,\u201d said Yarros.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n \u201cViolet\u2019s journey in\u00a0Fourth Wing<\/em>\u00a0has sparked a global phenomenon, captivating millions of readers and building an intensely passionate fanbase around its world, characters, and emotional stakes,\u201d said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. \u201cRebecca Yarros\u2019 brilliant series is one of the most anticipated adaptations in the world, and with Meredith and our valued partners at Kilter, Outlier, and Premeditated, we\u2019re bringing it to life in a way that honors what fans love about the story.<\/p>\n \n Yarros is represented by Louise Fury from The Fury Agency, Matthew N.
