Typically, El Ni\u00f1o impacts the Atlantic basin by increasing upper-level wind shear, which creates a more hostile environment for storm development and can reduce the overall number of tropical systems. Meanwhile, the Eastern Pacific hurricane season begins Friday where El Ni\u00f1o is forecast to increase tropical activity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">El Ni\u00f1o is one of three phases of a climate cycle called the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_weather-news_article_main-content_article-body_2_15\" href=\"https:\/\/www.climate.gov\/news-features\/blogs\/enso\/what-el-ni%C3%B1o%E2%80%93southern-oscillation-enso-nutshell#&amp;_intcmp=fxw_learn_article_main-content_article-body_2_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>El Ni\u00f1o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO)<\/u><\/a>. \u2014 which is declared when water temperatures in the Central Pacific reach at least 2 degrees Celsius \u2014 but also one of the strongest El Ni\u00f1o events ever observed.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_weather-news_article_main-content_article-body_2_25\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/el-nino-looms-atlantic-hurricane-season-one-month-away\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>EL NI\u00d1O EXPECTED TO DRIVE ATLANTIC STORM ACTIVITY AS COUNTDOWN TO HURRICANE SEASON BEGINS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">While sea surface temperatures are beginning to reach 0.5 degrees Celsius in the Central Pacific, these are just instantaneous observations.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The most dramatic changes are occurring 100 to 200 meters below the surface.<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Pacific Cross Section.png\" \/><figcaption>Cross-section of the Pacific Ocean<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr \/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_weather-news_article_main-content_article-body_2_26\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FOX Forecast Center<\/a>, a massive pool of warm water that has been building in the Western Pacific is now &#8220;sloshing&#8221; eastward.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Driven by winds from the west and several other physical factors, this warm water will reach the El Ni\u00f1o zone sometime this <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_weather-news_article_main-content_article-body_2_27\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/summer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">summer<\/a>, further increasing temperatures.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_weather-news_article_main-content_article-body_2_28\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/how-to-watch-fox-weather-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">There is currently a very high probability that El Ni\u00f1o conditions will persist through the end of 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">As El Ni\u00f1o strengthens, it will begin to &#8220;bend&#8221;
