We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"sc-1uza6dc-1 eRQajs\">Your support makes all the difference.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><button class=\"sc-aja53j-1 keLMOw sc-aja53j-7 eMEmGu\"><span data-testid=\"dropdown-with-gradient-dropdown-tablet\" class=\"sc-aja53j-3 dHXFkr\"><span data-action-type=\"Read more\" class=\"sc-aja53j-2 iKklLt\">Read more<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dennis Locorriere, the frontman of 1970s band Dr Hook, has died at 76 following a \u201clong and courageous battle\u201d with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/topic\/kidney-disease\">kidney disease<\/a>, his management confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Locorriere performed alongside Ray Sawyer, who died in 2019. <\/p>\n<p>The group, initially called Dr Hook &amp; The Medicine Show until 1975, achieved widespread fame with tracks such as \u201cCover of the Rolling Stone\u201d, \u201cSylvia\u2019s Mother\u201d, and \u201cWhen You\u2019re in Love with a Beautiful Woman\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Locorriere, who, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on May 16 2026,\u201d a statement released by Locorriere\u2019s management said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDennis faced his illness with remarkable strength, dignity, and resilience throughout, and remained deeply cherished by all who knew him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be remembered for his warmth, love, and the lasting impact he had on those around him.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"sc-awdjp1-2 cbpRGD sc-awdjp1-3 image align-center\">\n<figure class=\"sc-1cbdeug-0 cXcwgU\">\n<div data-gallery-length=\"2\" class=\"sc-awdjp1-0 gOFGFs\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"sc-1cbdeug-1 sc-1cbdeug-3 YlsWU hgzWpY\">Dr. Hook, from left: Bill Francis, Ray Sawyer, Rik Elswit, Dennis Locorriere, Jance Garfat, and John Walters, 1979<span class=\"sc-1cbdeug-7 gjqsiM\"> <!-- -->(<!-- -->Getty<!-- -->)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The statement thanked \u201ceveryone who supported Dennis during his journey\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It also asked for \u201cprivacy for his loved ones as they grieve this profound loss\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Locorriere was born in Union City, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/topic\/new-jersey\">New Jersey<\/a>, and lived in the UK for 24 years before his death.<\/p>\n<p>Locorriere founded the group, which debuted in 1971, with Sawyer, Billy Francis and George Cummings, before he went on to forge a solo career.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the band reached number 11 on the top 40 chart with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/topic\/timeless\"><em>Timeless<\/em><\/a>, a 40-track collection of chart hits, love songs and lesser-known gems from their extensive repertoire, more than 40 years on from their debut and seven years since their last top 20 album.<\/p>\n<p>During a career spanning nearly six decades, Locorriere recorded more than 18 albums.
