After Battlefield 6\u2019s open beta test, I got another hands-on chance to play the game\u2014this time, on two of its biggest maps and with the game\u2019s full slate of vehicles strafing through combat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.playstation.com\/2025\/07\/31\/battlefield-6-hands-on-report\/\">While my first hands-on experience<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playstation.com\/games\/battlefield-6\/\">Battlefield 6<\/a> gave a sense of weapons, the return of character classes, and the variety in map design, this look focused completely on Battlefield at its biggest and most explosive. Here\u2019s everything I saw through the four-hour play session, including the return of Operation Firestorm and the new Escalation mode.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New maps, new mode<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">This hands-on session featured two of Battlefield 6\u2019s biggest All-Out Warfare maps: Mirak Valley and Operation Firestorm. It combines wide-open spaces with a big, burgeoning construction zone in the center and a small village at the far side, supporting both close-quarters infantry gameplay in and around the structures, and plenty of vehicle combat outside of them. What was most notable was the application of Battlefield 6\u2019s new destruction system to this revived Battlefield 3 map. The game starts with capture points littered across the map. When one team holds the majority of capture points, they start to \u201ccapture territory,\u201d with a bar filling up on the screen. If the team manages to hold the majority of capture points until the bar fills completely, they score a point. The first team to score three points this way wins, but each time a team scores, one capture point is removed from the map. That forces players closer together, making them fight harder for fewer capture points.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Class training<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Choose your class training <\/strong>\u2014 When I went hands-on with Battlefield 6 at its multiplayer reveal, I only got to see half of the class \u201cTraining\u201d elements that will launch with the game. These are specializations that let you alter a particular class\u2019s focus and role. With the Spec Ops training, you\u2019re harder to detect, producing less sound when you move and leaving the In Combat state faster when you\u2019re prone, so your teammates can spawn in on your location more quickly.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adjustments since the beta<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">The Battlefield team has taken on a lot of feedback from players since its open beta in August, and we saw some of those adjustments in matches.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-video-409599\"><video data-src=\"https:\/\/stream.mux.com\/nbsq33VdQKsY01NAjdj0100lBGFEawz00V5iFBPimsC13fk\/capped-1080p.mp4?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJSUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJuYnNxMzNWZFFLc1kwMU5BamRqMDEwMGxCR0ZFYXd6MDBWNWlGQlBpbXNDMTNmayIsImF1ZCI6InYiLCJleHAiOjE3NTgzMTM2MDYsImtpZCI6IjRMNXlPY2pyVjFOVXFWemNVdkpCbjF3VG00ZVRHRzlNaDAyMDFZazVqdTlOQSJ9.OgTcUETubrRYelLPdn8Z20hHUrVkeAfl8yay4aTrqEFDsEkpeg95fK83RdhjnQlsuR10hx178SeFTf_eAnv_RjUCMsKEjSK6bt43I5E9L8P-9LPYHhSTFJRqTGv9HCTaQK4ONFenr2FLq8wCmwLxrDsWHf_jibKZ3SbQwhgw7IiNBID3EfFrY9C9JFUj_0FTxQ8KxlKF48qpsw4ZuZC89OlPwGwbZ22miFxH7Q-oebSKzTlSl5x9Bxvwo4bt1IOOjO3GjOI-P5PuQUENSPjNfl1steprOofn4GSKy8zqB74HuHmHpUBD_xjLwh6WPC3WexxdWs40_hWElBLwL57oRQ\" preload=\"metadata\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1280 \/ 720\" autoplay=\"\" controls=\"\" loop=\"\" muted=\"\" playsinline=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Tactical movement with less momentum<\/strong> \u2014 In the open beta, players could be pretty quick and pretty bouncy with the new Kinesthetic Combat system. Momentum has been dialed back a bit since then so that players can\u2019t chain so many quick movements together. Moving around maps still feels quick and responsive thanks to lots of options, like sliding, diving, and moving more quickly when you put your weapons away.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-video-409598\"><video data-src=\"https:\/\/stream.mux.com\/frJzUW401hHNZKbTQLp1dMPN00TO83vZYy6EIIbZPhgLk\/capped-1080p.mp4?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJSUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJmckp6VVc0MDFoSE5aS2JUUUxwMWRNUE4wMFRPODN2Wll5NkVJSWJaUGhnTGsiLCJhdWQiOiJ2IiwiZXhwIjoxNzU4MzEzNjA2LCJraWQiOiI0TDV5T2NqclYxTlVxVnpjVXZKQm4xd1RtNGVUR0c5TWgwMjAxWWs1anU5TkEifQ.QLn_afB8Jb-uGquSIX9Tia8AWlG_QGzRVyLYL4Kv7v-TL_T32Q-_UVV9izKDXspZYHGyuVR3wDzDx-6Kv2ym5xBpvddIl-dpVI9GnSxYNt0NKVI83xlLtuBjjfAdulcnzrewXBYFIh-BMCM_PvmBu9UeJNBTN_7y1z5dPoZXgV6TDpZ9dWgyKHrLRaVfpYJACFpMBMqHr1rUa6ps6LYUaLgo7d53-DAQd060Tjt7ykyRlA2VKTaSYEc4wNdAL1maOQlbU4UbUlq5OhLzYXvWw2KU1oJXJumCuyE2A1j-zVyoNENQux72ABLeIalcjPBPU5bjHRzxXEx1jt0J40f68w\" preload=\"metadata\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1280 \/ 720\" autoplay=\"\" controls=\"\" loop=\"\" muted=\"\" playsinline=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>A little less sniper dominance<\/strong> \u2014 There are some very long sightlines on both Mirak Valley and Operation Firestorm, and snipers were a major force in all the matches I played. That said, both maps have been designed with a wide variety of terrain and structures that provide a lot of cover. In my first hands-on with the game, some guns didn\u2019t feel especially viable; the light machine gun that\u2019s default for the Support class, for instance, felt like it struggled to secure kills at any range. I\u2019m happy to report that Medics can now secure a few kills as well as lay down covering fire for teammates.
