{"id":4133,"date":"2025-09-27T01:17:51","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T01:17:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=4133"},"modified":"2025-09-27T01:17:52","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T01:17:52","slug":"jon-marks-replacing-mike-missanelli-at-97-5-the-fanatic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=4133","title":{"rendered":"Jon Marks replacing Mike Missanelli at 97.5 The Fanatic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">A familiar voice is replacing Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Former 94.1 WIP host Jon Marks, fresh off <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/phillies\/phillies-red-sox-wip-scott-franzke-nbc-sports-philadelphia-schedule-20250722.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/phillies\/phillies-red-sox-wip-scott-franzke-nbc-sports-philadelphia-schedule-20250722.html\">a one-year stint at PHLY<\/a>, is taking over the Fanatic\u2019s midday time slot. Marks announced the move Thursday afternoon on the station\u2019s afternoon show. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cIt\u2019s kind of surreal walking in here today,\u201d Marks said. \u201cIt\u2019s been almost two years since I\u2019ve worked full time&#8230; I have a lot of energy, and I\u2019m broke, so I need to get back to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Marks\u2019 first day on the air will be Monday, and he\u2019ll host <i>Middays with Marks<\/i> daily from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The plan is to eventually pair him with a co-host, but program director Scott Masteller said that\u2019s not going to happen \u201cright away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">As to why the Fanatic turned to Marks, Masteller said it\u2019s for all the reasons you\u2019d probably suspect. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cHe has some history with the Fanatic,\u201d Masteller said. \u201cHe\u2019s got name recognition and he\u2019s got a following \u2026 He\u2019s excited to be with us, and we\u2019re excited to have him on the team.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">It\u2019s Marks\u2019 second stint at The Fanatic. He spent 11 years at the station from 2005 to 2016, co-hosting shows alongside Missanelli Anthony Gargano, Tony Bruno, and Brian Baldinger. More recently, he worked at WIP from 2017 to 2023, eventually earning the coveted afternoon drive-time role alongside former Eagles defender Ike Reese. <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/wip-jon-marks-ike-reese-replacement-philly-sports-talk-20231218.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/wip-jon-marks-ike-reese-replacement-philly-sports-talk-20231218.html\">He surprised listeners when he announced his sudden departure in December 2023<\/a> to spend more time with his family. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cThis is the first time that it\u2019s [just] me,\u201d Marks said. \u201cThis will not be fake take radio. This will not be anything but a show that I feel like that the city needs right now, which is a fun show that talks about everything.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">So why leave WIP only to rejoin The Fanatic? Hosting middays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. means Marks won\u2019t miss time with his three daughters. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cWhere I am with my life, and where my kids are \u2026 I thought, \u2018Can I do this another five years?\u2019 And I just can\u2019t imagine not having dinner with all my kids,\u201d <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/wip-jon-marks-ike-reese-replacement-philly-sports-talk-20231218.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/wip-jon-marks-ike-reese-replacement-philly-sports-talk-20231218.html\">Marks said when he left WIP. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Prior to cutbacks by Beasley Broadcast Group, The Fanatic\u2019s parent company, <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/975-the-fanatic-mike-missanelli-replacement-beasley-20250813.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/975-the-fanatic-mike-missanelli-replacement-beasley-20250813.html\">the plan was for Marks and Missanelli to co-host the show together<\/a>. But those plans were nixed when <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/975-the-fanatic-mike-missanelli-replacement-beasley-20250813.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/975-the-fanatic-mike-missanelli-replacement-beasley-20250813.html\">Missanelli was dismissed as part of nationwide layoffs last month<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cI wish I was allowed to retire from the station with a little more dignity,\u201d <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/975-the-fanatic-mike-missanelli-replacement-beasley-20250813.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sports\/975-the-fanatic-mike-missanelli-replacement-beasley-20250813.html\">Missanelli told The Inquirer <\/a>following his dismissal. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Marks will have his work cut out for him. WIP remains the dominant sports radio station in Philadelphia in every time slot, including middays, where he\u2019ll now go up against Joe Giglio and former Eagles defender Hugh Douglas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Masteller said Philadelphia remains big enough for two sports radio stations to exist on the air, and there\u2019s no expectation Marks will overtake his competition at WIP in the ratings. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cIn terms of what we do, we can\u2019t be what they are.
