What do you get for the movie star who has everything? In Noah Baumbach\u2019s Jay Kelly<\/i>, you give him a cross-continental road trip of self-discovery<\/a>. In a new trailer above, you can take a glimpse at that journey.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAll my memories are movies,\u201d Jay Kelly (George Clooney) \u2014 the movie star in question \u2014 says at one point. So, it\u2019s high time he made some new ones. When Jay embarks on an impromptu European vacation, it leads him down a path full of regrets, reminiscences, and lots and lots of cheesecake. \u201cThis is a story of him having to come to terms with other parts of his life besides the part that he\u2019s been very successful at,\u201d Clooney (you might recognize him from Ocean\u2019s 11, The Descendants, <\/i>and a few other titles) <\/i>tells Netflix. \u201cHe\u2019s coming to terms with the idea that maybe he hasn\u2019t been such a great friend or father. He has just been really good at being a movie star.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along for the ride are a few of Kelly\u2019s trusted employees, including Laura Dern (Marriage Story<\/i><\/a>, Wild<\/i>) as publicist Liz and Adam Sandler<\/a> (The Meyerowitz Stories<\/i><\/a>, Punch-Drunk Love, Uncut Gems<\/i>) as his long-suffering manager Ron. \u201cIt\u2019s also about his relationships with people who have devoted a good portion of their adult lives to his success,\u201d writer-director Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, <\/i>White Noise<\/i><\/a>) tells Netflix. \u201cWe see how Ron and Liz and everyone who surrounds Jay in his orbit has to sort of drop what they\u2019re doing and go with him. Everyone in the movie, to some degree or another, is tasked with the simple and complex question of \u2018How do we want to spend our lives?\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

Sandler sees his performance as a way to pay tribute to the many people who have given up their own time and energy to help his career. \u201cYou\u2019re Jay Kelly, but I\u2019m Jay Kelly too,\u201d Ron tells his boss in the trailer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know many Rons,\u201d Sandler tells Netflix. \u201cI\u2019ve met a lot of nice people along the way who have helped me, thought of me, and put stuff aside in their lives to make sure that mine was going smoothly when I needed them.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Clooney, he\u2019s grateful that his life has had a very different arc than Jay Kelly\u2019s. \u201cThis character has a lot more regrets than I would have, because, luckily for me, fame came much later in my life,\u201d says Clooney, who was 33 when he landed his breakout role on ER<\/i>. \u201cI got to figure out how to live life before I figured out how to be famous, and I don\u2019t think this character did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now he\u2019ll have to. Jay Kelly<\/i><\/a> hits select theaters on Nov. 14 and Netflix on Dec. 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n
