The Edmonton Oilers<\/a> and superstar Connor McDavid<\/a> have agreed on a two-year contract extension with an average annual value below $14 million, TSN\u2019s Ryan Rishaug reports.<\/p>\n McDavid clearly left money on the table in his extension, which comes less than a week after Minnesota Wild<\/a> winger Kirill Kaprizov<\/a> reset the market with his record-setting eight-year, $136 million contract ($17M AAV) last week.<\/p>\n McDavid seemingly confirmed the extension with a post on X, writing \u201cOur journey here continues.\u201d<\/p>\n Reaching a deal comes less than a week after Oilers<\/a> general manager Stan Bowman said Wednesday it\u2019s not a guarantee that McDavid<\/a> would enter the season as a pending unrestricted free agent, despite all signs seemingly pointing that way at the time.<\/p>\n McDavid is entering the final year of his eight-year, $100 million deal signed in 2017 and hasn\u2019t committed to reaching an extension with the Oilers as of yet. The team opens its 2025-26 season Wednesday, hosting the Calgary Flames<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t have expectations either way on that,\u201d Bowman said last week of when asked if it\u2019s clear McDavid will reach next week without a new deal in place. \u201cI think we\u2019re continuing to talk to [McDavid\u2019s agent Judd Moldaver] regularly, I talk to him almost every day and had good chats with Connor all along the way too. I don\u2019t like to make predictions, we\u2019ll see where it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n The 28-year-old superstar\u2019s future has been a source of speculation since he said in June he wanted to see a commitment to winning before opening talks just days after the Oilers fell to the Florida Panthers<\/a> in the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight year. <\/p>\n McDavid is a generational talent with three Hart Trophies who has led the league in scoring in five of his 10 seasons. <\/p>\n McDavid recorded 26 goals and 100 points in 67 games with the Oilers last season.
