Lisa Murkowski<\/strong> told CNN that \u201cconstructive conversations\u201d including both parties need to continue happening, and \u201cwe need to get the government open,\u201d explaining that there\u2019s an urgency to address the shutdown as people will soon start missing paychecks.\n <\/p>\n \n Asked about Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought, who has threatened further cuts to the federal workforce amid the shutdown, Murkowski said she worries that the news of potential firings causes \u201cuncertainty,\u201d highlighting \u201c48 hours of panic\u201d in her native Alaska over whether communities would be able to receive essential services provided by planes who need support from the Department of Transportation.\n <\/p>\n \n Pressed by CNN on if the Trump administration should be targeting blue states, Murkowski answered, \u201cthere should be no targeting of anyone. A government shutdown impacts everybody, unfortunately. We don\u2019t need to unnecessarily target any other areas more than others.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n GOP Sen. Susan Collins<\/strong>, who broke with Republicans on President Donald Trump\u2019s signature domestic policy bill earlier this year, said she thinks the White House needs to be involved in bipartisan talks to end the shutdown, adding, \u201cthe onus is really on Chuck Schumer,\u201d whom she noted previously opposed shutdowns.\n <\/p>\n \n The Senate Appropriations Committee Chair told CNN that she has circulated her own plan to reopen the government and Democratic lawmakers, like Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, have done the same, so she hopes \u201cwe can come to an agreement.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Collins later told CNN that she doesn\u2019t agree with Vought about firing furloughed workers, calling it \u201cextremely unfair\u201d and warning it would \u201cleave agencies unable to function efficiently when they reopen.\u201d\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n GOP Sen.
