rel=\"noopener\">Alleged Charlie Kirk assassin<\/a> Tyler Robinson asked a Utah judge to swap his shackles and prison garb for civilian clothes in court \u2014 arguing that convicted Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger was granted the same break.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/01\/us-news\/alleged-charlie-kirk-shooter-tyler-robinson-adds-former-menendez-brother-lawyer-to-legal-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the 22-year-old accused <\/a>killer claimed that photos showing him in a prison jumpsuit and restraints could make potential jurors think he\u2019s guilty and \u201cdeserving\u201d of the death penalty \u2014 jeopardizing his chance at a fair trial, according to a 21-page motion filed Thursday in Utah\u2019s 4th District Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the face of worldwide scrutiny, permitting Mr. Robinson to wear civilian clothing for court appearances is a minor inconvenience compared to the already present concerns with securing a fair trial before an impartial jury,\u201d his lawyers argued in their seeing and drawing conclusions regarding Mr. Robinson\u2019s guilt and or deserved punishment from obvious signs of pretrial incarceration will only increase.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Robinson \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/29\/us-news\/tyler-robinson-suspect-in-charlie-kirk-assassination-case-faces-court-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who is accused of gunning down the conservative activist<\/a> during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10 \u2014 was seen sporting a \u201csuicide smock\u201d during a virtual hearing last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the pervasive media coverage in this case, the repeated and ubiquitous display of Mr. Robinson in jail garb, shackles, and a suicide vest will undoubtedly be viewed by prospective jurors and will inevitably lead to prosecutive juror perception that he is guilty and deserving of death,\u201d the motion states.<\/p>\n<p>A footnote in the filing also <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/02\/us-news\/idaho-judge-bars-the-release-of-graphic-photos-from-crime-scene-where-bryan-kohberger-killed-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cites Kohberger\u2019s \u201chighly publicized death penalty case,\u201d<\/a> where he was granted a request to wear a suit and sit in the courtroom without handcuffs during pretrial hearings.<\/p>\n<figure href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/tag\/bryan-kohberger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as he was sentenced in July to life in prison without parole<\/a> for stabbing four University of Idaho students \u2014 Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin \u2014 to death in November 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson was charged with aggravated murder and other offenses, and could face the death penalty under Utah law \u2014 a punishment publicly supported by President Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/22\/us-news\/turning-point-usa-announces-star-studded-lineup-of-campus-speaking-dates-after-charlie-kirks-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a close
