The Irwins are a tight-knit group.\n<\/p>\n
Famed wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin<\/a> married Terri Irwin<\/a> (n\u00e9e Raines) in 1992. They later welcomed daughter Bindi Sue Irwin<\/a> in 1998 and son Robert Clarence Irwin<\/a> in 2003.\n<\/p>\n Since Steve’s death in 2006<\/a>, the family has honored his passion for animals. Terri, her children, Bindi’s husband Chandler Powell\u00a0and her daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell\u00a0all starred on Crikey! It’s the Irwins <\/em>for four seasons, which chronicled the family running the Australia Zoo. They continue to manage the zoo, which Steve’s parents first established as a reptile park in 1970, to this day.\n<\/p>\n “[Steve] is still part of every day<\/a>,” Robert told PEOPLE in a September 2025 cover story. “He’s part of every conversation. He’s part of my life. And I feel as though I get a little part of him back in some way, in every conversation I have about him, or any new story I hear about him, or in any new photo that I haven’t seen before.”<\/p>\n Here’s everything to know about the Irwin family.\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Steve, who was best-known for hosting of the Animal Planet series The Crocodile Hunter<\/a>, <\/em>was born on Feb. 22, 1962, in Upper Ferntree Gully, Victoria, Australia.\n<\/p>\n When Steve was a child, his parents opened the Beerwah Reptile Park, which\u00a0later became the Australia Zoo, per the website<\/a>. His experiences growing up in the park helped foster his love for animals, and he took over management of the park in 1991 \u2014 the same year he met Terri, a visiting tourist who would later become his wife.\n<\/p>\n On June 4, 1992, Steve and Terri were married in Eugene, Ore., and later welcomed Bindi and Robert. Steve often said that “if he was to be remembered for anything, he hoped that it was for being a good dad,” according to the Australia Zoo’s website.\n<\/p>\n He died on Sept. 4, 2006, when he was pierced in the heart and lungs by a stingray barb while filming off the coast of Australia.\n<\/p>\n In January 2018, Terri shared with PEOPLE, “Steve was someone who was larger than life\u00a0and really did live life to the fullest. Even though he died at 44 years of age, he lived such a full life and that’s what I want to do and share.”\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Terri was born on July 20, 1964, in Eugene, Ore. Like Steve, she\u00a0has a passion for wildlife and environmental conservation, per the Australia Zoo<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n In addition to her role on The Crocodile Hunter<\/em>, Terri starred in Crikey! It’s the Irwins<\/em>, which chronicled her life with her children and family as they managed the Australia Zoo. She continues to run the zoo alongside her family today.\n<\/p>\n These days, Terri is also excited about her role as grandmother to Bindi’s daughter, Grace. In an April 2021 special, she said that becoming a grandmother was “the most marvelous, wonderful, indescribable time<\/a>.”\n<\/p>\n Shortly after Grace’s birth, Terri shared on X<\/a>, “Love is not a big enough word. My heart is so incredibly happy. And I know that Steve would be beyond proud<\/a>. Grace is the next generation to continue his mission and message of conservation.”\n<\/p>\n In the years since Steve’s death, Terri has also said she doesn’t expect to remarry<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n “Steve was it for me<\/a>,” she told The Courier-Mail<\/em> in November 2021. “That’s just the way it is. I had a big, big love and it was enough to last a lifetime.”\n<\/p>\n Terri reiterated that sentiment in a January 2018 interview with PEOPLE, sharing that she hadn’t been on a date since Steve’s death and wasn’t looking to have any romantic relationships.\n<\/p>\n “I’m content. I have two beautiful kids, a really full plate. I’ve already had my happily ever after,” she said.\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Steve and Terri’s first child, Bindi, was born on July 24, 1998, in Buderim, Queensland, Australia. She was named for Steve’s favorite crocodile, per the Australia Zoo<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n Bindi followed in her parents’ footsteps as an animal lover, hosting a children’s wildlife show called Bindi, the Jungle Girl<\/em>, which premiered in 2007. Along with Terri and Robert, Bindi also starred in Crikey! It’s the Irwins<\/em> on Animal Planet. In 2015, Bindi won season 21 of Dancing with the Stars <\/em>alongside partner Derek Hough<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n She’s married to Powell, whom she met in 2013. He proposed on her 21st birthday in 2019<\/a>, and they were married in an intimate March 2020 wedding<\/a> at the Australia Zoo.\n<\/p>\n In an Instagram post<\/a> at the time, Bindi shared, “Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love.”\n<\/p>\n Exactly one year later, Bindi and Chandler welcomed a baby girl into their family. Grace Warrior Irwin Powell<\/a> was born on March 25, 2021.\n<\/p>\n “There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl,” Bindi shared on Instagram<\/a> at the time. “She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed.”\n<\/p>\n Bindi has also shared how she’s keeping her dad’s memory alive for Grace.\n<\/p>\n “We have so many documentaries of Dad, and we’re always playing them for Grace<\/a>,” Bindi told PEOPLE in May 2022. “I didn’t realize how much Dad’s passion for life and his animated facial expressions \u2014 I mean, they captivate her.” She also shared that they refer to Steve as “Grandpa Crocodile.”\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Robert, the second child of Steve and Terri, was born on Dec. 1, 2003<\/a>, in Buderim, Queensland, Australia. Like the rest of the Irwins, he’s passionate about wildlife conservation, having starred in Crikey! It’s the Irwins <\/em>and continuing to work at the Australia Zoo. In 2022, he released a photography book called Robert Irwin’s Australia<\/em>.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n “My dad was a very, very passionate photographer,” Robert told PEOPLE in November of that year. “It sort of runs in the family. He was equally enthusiastic behind the lens as in front of it. And it’s just always kind of been there and been part of my life.”\n<\/p>\n Robert is currently starring on season 34 of Dancing with the Stars<\/em><\/a>, where he’s partnered with Witney Carson<\/a>. He chose to honor his mother<\/a>, Terri, on Dedication Night, dancing a contemporary routine to \u201cYou\u2019ll Be In My Heart\u201d by Phil Collins<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve been working hard and I’ve been sort of tapping into emotions that I haven’t really gotten to share before \u2014 certainly not publicly,\u201d Robert said in an Oct. 12\u00a0TikTok<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve been thinking a lot about my dad, I’ve been thinking a lot about the highs and the lows, the grief, the way my mom has helped me navigate that.\u201d\n<\/p>\n When he’s not dancing, one of Robert’s favorite pastimes is being an uncle to Bindi’s daughter Grace.\n<\/p>\n “It’s so surreal being an uncle. It’s the most amazing thing,” he told E! News<\/a> in October 2022. “It’s the best job I’ve ever had, that’s for sure. She’s just so full of energy. She’s so determined. She’s a focused and intelligent little kid.”\n<\/p>\n As for Robert’s personal life, he’s shared that Bindi has been encouraging him to date<\/a> \u2014 if only to take the attention off of her.\n<\/p>\n “Of course, my sister has gotten married and had a kid and there’s always a lot of rumors that go around,” he told\u00a0E! News. “There’s always so many crazy things that happen so Bindi always says, ‘Robert, it’s your turn now.
