Ivy Harrington from New Jersey and Chant\u00e9a McIntyre from Oregon were named first and second runners-up.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hf00023b6noh11c2zf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The event capped almost 18 months of turbulence for the long-running contest, which underwent an acrimonious change in leadership following the resignation of Miss USA 2023, Utah\u2019s Noelia Voigt, amid allegations of mistreatment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hf00033b6ng5qfg57q@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            With the event\u2019s new organizers heralding a \u201cnew era,\u201d Friday\u2019s finale concluded five days of events spanning swimwear competitions, eveningwear parades and Q&amp;As with judges.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5npk9p000p3b6nyklx66xm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Eckert, a former cheerleader and graduate of University of Nebraska-Lincoln, fell to her knees when her victory was announced, overcome with emotion in a blizzard of gold streamers.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hf00053b6n4xbo6ifg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In a break from tradition, she was crowned by reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kj\u00e6r Theilvig rather than by last year\u2019s winner, Alma Cooper of Michigan, who was not in attendance. Voigt meanwhile made a surprise return to the pageant as a host for the official online broadcast, having co-hosted one of the preliminary competitions on Wednesday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hf00073b6ntob4wsem@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Miss USA pageant was plunged into controversy last May, when Voigt and then-reigning Miss Teen USA, UmaSofia Srivastava, resigned within days of one another. Voigt initially attributed her decision to mental health concerns, but social media users spotted that the first letters of the first 11 sentences of her cryptic post spelled \u201cI am silenced,\u201d sparking rumors of a strict non-disclosure agreement.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hf00083b6n3ji4ib0c@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Her resignation letter, later seen by CNN, alleged a \u201ctoxic work environment\u201d that \u201cat best, is poor management and, at worst, is bullying and harassment.\u201d Voigt also claimed the pageant\u2019s organizers had failed to provide an \u201ceffective handler,\u201d resulting in her being sexually harassed during a Christmas parade event in Florida while alone with an unnamed person in a car. Miss USA\u2019s then president, Laylah Rose, has consistently denied allegations of wrongdoing.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg00093b6npwfy3dv4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Last month, American businessman Thom Brodeur announced he had acquired the rights to Miss USA and Miss Teen USA from the Miss Universe Organization, which controls both licenses. The 10-year deal sees him assume the role of Miss USA\u2019s president and CEO, but Rose \u2013 still posting via the pageant\u2019s official Instagram account \u2013 rejected this, writing in a since-deleted post that she had not seen \u201cany new contracts regarding any transfer of ownership.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000a3b6nvwrsrcgp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Miss Universe Organization later issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.missuniverse.com%2Fpress-releases%2Fmiss-universe-press-release-10%2F&amp;data=05%7C02%7Coscar.holland%40cnn.com%7C65a4614f3ff54ec2c86c08de11031ab7%7C0eb48825e8714459bc72d0ecd68f1f39%7C0%7C0%7C638966902189656412%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=wNss%2FaZl2RyGgfZmisY%2BsrPm6ihkVr51YYO3Omg6juM%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> confirming Brodeur\u2019s acquisition, calling it a \u201cnew chapter\u201d in the pageant\u2019s \u201cstoried history.\u201d Miss Universe\u2019s co-owner JKN Global Group then filed a lawsuit against Rose\u2019s company VVV Global, alleging the firm had breached its contract and brought the Miss USA brand \u201cinto disrepute.\u201d The suit also reiterated Voigt\u2019s earlier claims, while accusing Rose of \u201cmistreating pageant contestants, winners, staff and volunteers.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000b3b6nqknq3jj1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In a statement, emailed to CNN by Rose, VVV Global said it was still \u201ccommitted to the pageant world\u201d and \u201ceager to obtain a full 12-year license agreement for the \u2026 pageants as promised from JKN.\u201d The company has also filed a countersuit denying allegations of wrongdoing, while claiming over $116 million in damages and lost profits.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000c3b6no7t6vf9q@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            About a week after JKN\u2019s complaint was filed, Brodeur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DPooO6OEVx6\/\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> on Instagram that he had \u201cofficially regained access\u201d to Miss USA\u2019s social media accounts. The businessman and founder of Brodeur Beauty declined CNN\u2019s request for comment on his vision for the pageant, though he has previously attempted to draw a line under recent events. Speaking to People magazine last month about Voight Voigt and Srivastava\u2019s resignations, he <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/new-miss-usa-ceo-teases-changes-to-pageant-after-years-of-controversy-exclusive-11811377\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>: \u201cThere was some pretty egregious NDA language that suppressed the voices of those two young women and did not give them the ability to speak about their journey. I want to remove that restriction.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000d3b6n1fymdode@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Founded in 1952, the Miss USA organization has undergone multiple changes in leadership in recent years. Donald Trump owned the pageant, as well as the Miss Universe Organization, from 1996 to 2015, when he sold both to WME-IMG. JKN Global Group, a conglomerate founded by Thai businesswoman Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, acquired both Miss Universe and Miss USA in 2022.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000e3b6n05iknoqh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Prior to Rose\u2019s appointment, former Miss USA Crystle Stewart had operated the American pageant\u2019s license, though she stepped down after becoming embroiled in a scandal that included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/10\/27\/business\/miss-usa-investigation-rigged-claim\">claims of favoritism<\/a> toward the 2022 winner R\u2019Bonney Gabriel. (Gabriel later went on to win Miss Universe.) Stewart denied allegations that the pageant was rigged, and an internal investigation concluded no rigging took place.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000g3b6nvd8kgjll@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            This year\u2019s contest began Monday with a \u201cstate costume\u201d competition, won by Miss Missouri, Shae Smith. Other preliminary contests and closed-door interviews saw the 51 contestants narrowed down to a top 16, with a further four advancing to the final through a public vote.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000h3b6ns0nx3f82@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            During an on-stage Q&amp;A with judges \u2014 including 2014\u2019s Miss USA, and star of \u201cThe Valley,\u201d Nia Sanchez \u2014 contestants fielded questions on topics ranging from representation in the media to the future of artificial intelligence.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000i3b6ntf68ljvc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            More than a dozen of this year\u2019s participants were aged 30 or above, after Miss USA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C2LY6TPLp3G\/\" target=\"_blank\">lifted<\/a> longstanding rules in 2024 banning women aged over 28 (as well as married women and mothers) from entering. Among them was 44-year-old Miss Delaware, Tetra Shockley, who became the oldest person ever to compete in the pageant. Miss New Hampshire, MonaLesa Brackett, meanwhile became the first woman to compete wearing a hijab.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000j3b6n5ttvxvti@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Friday\u2019s pageant also marked the first time Miss USA has not been televised since it was first broadcast on CBS in 1963. It was instead broadcast via a specialist beauty and pageantry streaming service.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmh5nh3hg000k3b6nl1bwn6qa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Eckert will now go on to compete at the 74th Miss Universe pageant in Thailand next month.
