\n<\/p>\n
Kim Kardashian<\/a> is courting chaos amongst her All\u2019s Fair <\/em>castmates<\/a>. The glamorous group\u2014which, in addition to Kardashian, includes Glenn Close<\/a>, Niecy Nash-Betts<\/a>, Naomi Watts<\/a>, Sarah Paulson<\/a> and Teyana Taylor<\/a>\u2014is on-set of their People<\/em> shoot in Los Angeles on Oct. 16, two days after Kardashian\u2019s brand Skims launched (and quickly sold out) their viral faux pubic hair thong<\/a>. At mere mention of the unconventional lingerie<\/a>, the wheels of the conversation quickly \u201cfall off,\u201d as Nash-Betts puts it. \u201cMerkins are the new Birkins,\u201d Kardashian quips, sparking lots of riffing from the women. Eventually she tells the group, \u201cLet\u2019s keep it together!\u201d\n<\/p>\n Over the course of the three-hour shoot, it becomes clear just how tight a bond they created while filming All\u2019s Fair<\/em><\/a>, Ryan Murphy\u2019s new Hulu legal drama<\/a> premiering Nov. 4. As the women trickle in one by one from the upstairs of the London West Hollywood for the shoot in the hotel\u2019s ballroom, they are each met with hugs and compliments from the ladies who arrived before them. Close and Watts even pull out their phones to record Taylor\u2019s arrival in her sleek, black designer outfit paired with giant Garfield slippers.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n A week before they started filming, Murphy hosted a dinner so the group could get to know one another. \u201cI think that really helped set the tone for what our relationship would be,\u201d says Kardashian, 45. \u201cWe all had dinner, talked s—, had some drinks and really just got to know each other on a personal level.\u201d\n<\/p>\n Set in L.A., All\u2019s Fair<\/em> follows a team of high-powered female divorce attorneys who leave a male-dominated firm to open their own practice. As the team takes on new cases and clients\u2014played by guest stars like Judith Light<\/a>, Brooke Shields<\/a>, Jessica Simpson<\/a> and Rick Springfield<\/a>\u2014they also navigate personal relationships, secrets and shifting allegiances.\n<\/p>\n \u201cThe theme every week is we have a story of a woman going through an unfortunate situation, and we’re there to help her,\u201d says Kardashian. \u201cI think that the moral of this story for us as women is even if you are having a hard time, even if you don’t believe in yourself at that moment, your lawyers are there, your girls are there to pick you up and help you believe in yourself again.\u201d\n<\/p>\n Kardashian was No. 1 on the call sheet and the first to join the cast as Allura Grant, a lawyer going through her own divorce from her professional quarterback husband. \u201cI mean, it\u2019s Ryan Murphy\u2014of course you\u2019ve got to say yes,\u201d she says of taking the role, loosely based on her real-life lawyer Laura Wasser<\/a>, who served as a writing consultant on the series.\n<\/p>\n \u201cLaura happened to be my attorney for two divorces out of the three, and her dad was my mom [Kris Jenner<\/a>]’s attorney during her divorce with my dad<\/a> [Robert Kardashian],\u201d says Kardashian, who worked with Wasser during her divorces from exes Kanye West<\/a> in 2022 and Kris Humphries in 2013<\/a> (she also divorced Damon Thomas in 2004). \u201cSo she has 40 years of stories, and I felt like I drew inspiration from seeing what a bad-ass woman she’s been.\u201d\n<\/p>\n <\/span> Murphy was inspired to craft the All\u2019s Fair<\/em> world around Kardashian\u2014who shares kids North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6, with West<\/a>\u2014after they worked together on her first major acting role in the 12th season of his series American Horror Story: Delicate<\/em>.<\/a> At first he approached her with a show idea based upon her more than 15 years on reality TV, both on Keeping Up With the Kardashians<\/em><\/a> and The Kardashians<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI was just like, \u2018No, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s something that I\u2019d be into,\u2019 \u201d Kardashian recalls. \u201cI think he was really shocked by that.\u201d\n<\/p>\n Murphy then came back to her once again, this time with a show idea based on her seven-year law journey<\/a>. \u201cI was so for it,\u201d she says. \u201cI think what was really interesting is he came up with the concept first. Then he came up with his dream cast. Once everyone signed on, he wrote for every person. He said it\u2019s usually the opposite.\u201d As Murphy would text Kardashian about each new addition to the cast, \u201cI\u2019d be like, \u2018No way!\u2019 \u201d she says. \u201cI didn\u2019t even believe it was real until I showed up.\u201d\n<\/p>\n <\/span> When it came time to film, Kardashian was focused on showing up prepared. \u201cI am standing next to people who have done this a very long time and who I admire and respect and are the best at what they do,\u201d she says. \u201cNiecy would say, \u2018That was amazing. Why don\u2019t you try it this way?\u2019 And just watching Glenn and seeing her character come to life with rage and tears. . . . You learn something new every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n Close, 78, like her All\u2019s Fair <\/em>character Dina Standish, served as a mentor to the group. \u201cI\u2019m pretty confident everyone will say that we were all a little in awe that we were having this experience getting to watch and work with her,\u201d says Paulson, 50. \u201cShe was so kind and generous to everyone.\u201d\n<\/p>\n Nash-Betts, 55, adds that the 101 Dalmatians<\/em> actress has \u201ca wicked sense of humor,\u201d and Taylor, 34, affectionately gave her a nickname inspired by Love Island USA<\/em><\/a>: \u201cShe was mommy . . . Mamacita.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n <\/span> In turn, Close says, the women \u201call mentored me” \u2014 and they were still teaching her things, even on set. During the shoot, Taylor demonstrated the gestures for \u201cclock it\u201d (touching your pointer finger to your thumb) and \u201ceat it\u201d (touching your middle finger to your thumb).<\/p>\n Close asked for an explanation of “eat it.”\n<\/p>\n \u201cLike, clock your pixie because it\u2019s eating.\u201d\n<\/p>\n But what’s a pixie? Close asked. \u201cYour haircut!\u201d Taylor responded.\n<\/p>\n The prep would come in handy when Kardashian wrangled the group for a TikTok; watching her work, it’s not a surprise that Watts, 57, says the cast was in awe of Kardashian\u2019s multitasking skills during filming. \u201cWe were watching her run a company<\/a> and talk to her kids at night, like, \u2018Is homework done? Get to bed. What have you eaten?\u2019 \u201d\n<\/p>\n Nash-Betts would often \u201cquiz\u201d Kardashian as she also juggled studying on-set for the bar exam<\/a>, which she took in July after six years of a law apprenticeship and passing both the baby bar and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (a test required in California for candidates to be able to take the bar without an accredited law school education). She finds out her results in November.<\/p>\n <\/span> \u201cShe was studying the law and dealing with this character and running lines,\u201d says Watts, who plays Allura\u2019s best friend, Liberty Ronson. \u201cShe crushed it daily.\u201d<\/p>\n Kardashian takes a moment to say she felt like she \u201ctortured you guys reading my flashcards\u201d in between lines. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t torture\u2014I was amazed,\u201d says Close. Adds Nash-Betts: \u201cIt was women supporting women in front of and behind the camera.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n But what would a Murphy show be without some drama? Paulson serves up plenty as Carrington \u201cCarr\u201d Lane, the antagonist to Kardashian\u2019s Allura who is left behind at the old firm and takes on Allura\u2019s ex as her client in their divorce as an act of revenge.<\/p>\n <\/span> \u201cI had to say some really scandalous things in Kim\u2019s face,\u201d says Paulson. \u201cI did at one time spit a potato chip on her. I was in her face screaming, and it was like, \u2018Bing!\u2019 I saw it go in her eye.\u201d<\/p>\n While Paulson has worked on at least a dozen Murphy projects prior to this one, it’s not often that she gets to play the villain. \u201cI had the best time, I really did,\u201d she says. \u201cI love working in a high-stakes environment, and I don\u2019t mean the environment of the set but of the scene.\u201d That intensity was often cut with laughter. \u201cSarah and Kim sometimes could not look at each other without laughing,\u201d says Close.\n<\/p>\n Nash-Betts\u2014who plays no-nonsense partner Emerald Greene\u2014says she\u2019s never experienced \u201cthis level\u201d of support on a set. \u201cSome of us are not chickens that just hatched,\u201d she says, while Close feigns shock. \u201cWe got a few feathers; we\u2019ve been around the block a few times. When I was on the set of Ryan\u2019s Scream Queens<\/em>, I was looking for somebody grown to have a conversation with, so I love y\u2019all for that.\u201d\n<\/p>\n The youngest of the cast is Taylor, who plays Milan, an aspiring lawyer and mentee to Kardashian\u2019s Allura. In the trailer, though, it\u2019s revealed that Milan is keeping a secret: She\u2019s having an affair with Allura\u2019s ex. \u201cMilan is the baby of the group and has stripes to earn and is figuring out how to navigate it,\u201d says Taylor. \u201cAllura is gracious enough to help her navigate, even though Milan has made mistakes. I think it\u2019s important because it shows community and shows we won\u2019t let men come between that community.\u201d\n<\/p>\n <\/span> And only a tight-knit community could receive the gift of salmon-sperm facials<\/a> the way this one did. During the interview, Kardashian says she gifted the women the experience as an early Christmas present, in addition to items from Skims, Balenciaga and Gucci.<\/p>\n \u201c[My sister] Kourtney<\/a> went to go get a facial yesterday at the salmon-sperm place, and they said, \u2018Oh, well none of the girls have used it, so I’m going to give you a free one,\u2019 \u201d she recalls. \u201cI was like, \u2018Why wouldn\u2019t you get it?!\u2019 \u201d\n<\/p>\n The group jumps to their own defense: \u201cWait, I was so excited about the gifts, I don\u2019t think I opened the envelope. It was some salmon sperm in there?\u201d Taylor asks. \u201cGirl, why didn\u2019t you say that?\u201d\n<\/p>\n Nash-Betts is quick to chime in: \u201cI\u2019m using mine!\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n Kardashian wasn\u2019t the only one to give gifts: Close gave the women Lucite nameplates engraved with their characters\u2019 names to sit on their desks. Taylor left some perfumes in Paulson\u2019s trailer after she \u201cbullied me for my scent.\u201d\n<\/p>\n And Watts, founder of the menopause beauty company Stripes,<\/a> says she, \u201cof course, handed out lube<\/a>,\u201d which Close is surprised to hear.\n<\/p>\n \u201cGlenn\u2019s like, \u2018I don\u2019t think I got that,\u2019 \u201d says Paulson; Close agrees: \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018No. Lube?\u2019 It\u2019s been so long.\u201d (Watts assures her, “I will set you up.\u201d)\n<\/p>\n <\/span> If the cast has any regrets, it\u2019s not stealing Close\u2019s phone to call her Fatal Attraction<\/em> costar Michael Douglas during their screening of the 1987 film at Jenner\u2019s home<\/a>. Jenner\u2014who served as an executive producer on All\u2019s Fair<\/em>\u2014hosted the screening after Kardashian revealed she\u2019d never seen the film.<\/p>\n \u201cGlenn was drunk\u2014why didn\u2019t we take her phone?!\u201d asks Kardashian. Paulson deadpans: \u201cMichael, you\u2019re getting a call.\u201d\n<\/p>\n The women crack up as they recall Jenner falling asleep during the movie (\u201cYour mom popped up with her hair split in the back,\u201d Paulson tells Kardashian) and Glenn\u2019s commentary on what she remembered most about each scene.\n<\/p>\n <\/span> Close says it had been \u201ca very long time\u201d since she\u2019d revisited the film. \u201cI shocked myself,\u201d she says. \u201cIt was wonderful to realize that the movie holds up incredibly well.\u201d<\/p>\n As for Kardashian\u2019s reaction? \u201cIt was insane, from the outfits to the boobs to the\u2014,\u201d she says, as Close interrupts: \u201cI like that she says outfits first.\u201d\n<\/p>\n In fact, Close has written into her contracts that she can take wardrobe home from her sets. \u201cI laugh because if [Kim] could see my closet at home, I don\u2019t even know what her reaction would be,\u201d Close says. \u201cEvery time I walk into my closet, I think of her.\u201d\n<\/p>\n This prompts the group to come up with a plan for their next adventure after All\u2019s Fair<\/em> promotion wraps. \u201cGlenn, we\u2019re coming over,\u201d jokes Nash-Betts.\n<\/p>\n \u201cWith a camera,\u201d Paulson adds, \u201cand a bunch of merkins.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js<\/a> Kim Kardashian is courting chaos amongst her All\u2019s Fair castmates.
