{"id":9524,"date":"2025-11-12T05:47:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T05:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=9524"},"modified":"2025-11-12T05:47:22","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T05:47:22","slug":"badlands-rescues-box-office-with-record-80m-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jubi24.com\/?p=9524","title":{"rendered":"Badlands&#8217; Rescues Box Office With Record $80M Opening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Whew.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/dan-trachtenberg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dan-trachtenberg_1\" data-tag=\"dan-trachtenberg\">Dan Trachtenberg<\/a> is the hero of the hour as his new movie, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/predator-badlands\/\" id=\"auto-tag_predator-badlands_1\" data-tag=\"predator-badlands\">Predator: Badlands<\/a><\/em>, has ended the drought at the domestic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/box-office\/\" id=\"auto-tag_box-office_1\" data-tag=\"box-office\">box office<\/a> and kicked off November in high style. The movie opened well ahead of expectations to top the domestic box office chart with a franchise-best $40 million from 3,725 theaters (prerelease tracking had it opening to $25 million). Overseas, it likewise took in $40 million for a global start of $80 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The pic scored the top opening of the sci-fi franchise domestically after stealing the crown from <em>AVP: Alien vs. Predator<\/em>, which debuted to $38.4 million in 2004, not adjusted for inflation. And it\u2019s the biggest global opening of the franchise after surpassing 2018\u2019s <em>Predator<\/em> ($48.9 million). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The 20th Century and Disney release has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/predator-badlands-review-elle-fanning-dan-trachtenberg-1236417477\/\">glowing reviews<\/a> and an <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/predator_badlands\" target=\"_blank\">equally growing audience reaction<\/a> to thank. It is the only <em>Predator<\/em> film, including the two <em>Alien<\/em> mash-ups, to earn an A- CinemaScore, while its PostTrak exits are through the roof and its audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 95 percent. As one rival exec noted, \u201cThis is what happens WHEN YOU MAKE GOOD MOVIES! People on the fence show up, and then tell their friends and family to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Badlands<\/em>, which Trachtenberg co-conceived with his\u00a0<em>Prey<\/em>\u00a0writer Patrick Aison, blazes a new trail for the now nine-film franchise that began with John McTiernan\u2019s 1987 classic,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/predator-oral-history-arnold-schwarzenegger-film-1014132\/\">Predator<\/a><\/em>. The series, from producer John Davis, landed at Disney following the Fox merger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Trachtenberg has always surprised, beginning with<em> 10 Cloverfield Lane<\/em>\u00a0(2016) and followed by 2021\u2019s\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/prey\/\">Prey<\/a><\/em> and June\u2019s\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/predator-killer-of-killers\/\">Predator: Killer of Killers<\/a><\/em>, an animated anthology, both of which bowed on Disney\u2019s Hulu. In this case, he\u2019s made a villainous Predator named Dek, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, into the protagonist who pairs with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/predator-badlands-elle-fanning-synth-1236417805\/\">Elle Fanning<\/a>\u2019s Weyland-Yutani synthetic known as Thia. Dek has been discarded by his Yautja clan, and in a last-ditch effort to prove himself, he flies his brother Kwei\u2019s ship to Genna, the most dangerous planet in the universe, to go on an unsanctioned hunt for its most mythical beast. That\u2019s where he meets Thia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Badlands<\/em> wasn\u2019t the only title contributing to the much-needed uptick that saw overall weekend revenue come in higher than the corresponding frame last year for the first time in weeks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Paramount release <em><a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/regretting-you-review-allison-williams-colleen-hoover-1236406867\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/regretting-you-review-allison-williams-colleen-hoover-1236406867\/\">Regretting You<\/a><\/em>, the adaptation of the Colleen Hoover book, gets the MVP award for hanging in there and finally pulling ahead of hit horror pic<em> <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/black-phone-2-review-ethan-hawke-1236401733\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/black-phone-2-review-ethan-hawke-1236401733\/\">Black Phone 2<\/a><\/em> in its third weekend, says Comscore\u2019s chief box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Regretting You<\/em> came in No. 2 behind <em>Predator<\/em> after falling a scant 9 percent in its third weekend to an estimated $7.1 million from 3,196 theaters for a domestic tally of $38.5 million. Overseas, it earned another $5.7 from 57 markets for a foreign tally of $32.4 million and $70.9 million globally. Marc Weinstock, Paramount\u2019s recently departed worldwide president of marketing and distribution, was the driving force in convincing the prior regime at the studio to distribute the pic in the U.S. and select markets on behalf of producer and financier Constantin Films, in addition to guiding the marketing campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Blumhouse\u2019s <em>Black Phone <\/em>sequel is no slouch, and held at No. 3 in its fourth weekend with an estimated $5.2 million from 2,493 locations as it cleared the $70 million mark domestically and $50.2 million at the foreign box office for a global total of $120.4 million. It\u2019s a profit monster, having cost a modest $30 million to produce before marketing (ditto for <em>Regretting You<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Amazon MGM\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/2026-oscar-predictions-feinberg-forecast\/best-director-187\/\"><em>Sarah\u2019s Oil<\/em><\/a> \u2014 based on the true story of a Black woman who became the richest woman in Texas because of oil \u2014 may not have done much for critics but nevertheless opened to a solid $4.5 million from 2,410 theaters after earning a coveted A+ Cinemascore from moviegoers and a stellar 97 percent audience ranking on Rotten Tomatoes. Landing at No. 4, the pic is also benefiting from appealing to females (68 percent).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    A slew of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/2026-oscar-predictions-feinberg-forecast\/best-director-187\/\">Oscar players opened<\/a>, led by Sony Pictures Classics\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/nuremberg-review-russell-crowe-rami-malek-leo-woodall-1236364560\/\">awards darling <em>Nuremberg<\/em><\/a>. The historical pic rounded out the top five with an estimated $4.1 million from 1,802 cinemas. It\u2019s another instance of a film where strong word of mouth among moviegoers is more than making up for mixed reviews, including an RT audience score of 96 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The opposite was true for Mubi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/die-my-love-review-jennifer-lawrence-robert-pattinson-1236220430\/\">Jennifer Lawrence-Robert Pattinson<\/a> awards vehicle <em>Die My Love<\/em>, which placed No. 8 in its opening with an estimated total of $2.5 million from 1,983 theaters. While largely embraced by reviewers, the film has been spurned by audiences, earning a rarely seen D+ CinemaScore, alongside a \u201crotten\u201d audience ranking of 44 percent on RT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/christy-review-sydney-sweeney-david-michod-ben-foster-1236363060\/\">Sydney Sweeney-led <em>Christy<\/em><\/a>, another awards player starring a high-profile actress, couldn\u2019t crack the top 10 in opening to a forgettable $1.3 million from 2,011 sites. The good news: Similar to Lawrence in <em>Die My Love<\/em>, critics have praised Sweeney\u2019s performance, even if they have issues with the movie itself. <em>Christy<\/em>, from Black Bear\u2019s new distribution arm, placed No. 11. Based on a true story, Sweeney transformed her body to play Christy Martin, who helped legitimize women\u2019s boxing. The biopic stars Ben Foster as the trainer who becomes her abusive husband.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Neon opened acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/sentimental-value-review-renate-reinsve-joachim-trier-1236223376\/\">Swedish drama <em>Sentimental Value<\/em><\/a> \u2014 one of several awards contenders it has in the mix this year \u2014 in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles. The pic is reporting an impressive per-location average of $50,000, one of the best of the year and among the 10 best of all time for a foreign-language film.
