The Ottawa Senators will get some depth back for a major challenge against the Colorado Avalanche.
To make room for Eller’s return, Linus Ullmark, who is away from the team for personal reasons, was removed from the active roster. The Senators will continue to carry Ullmark’s $8.25 million cap hit while he is off the roster.
Eller has not played since Dec. 11 when he suffered a lower-body injury after blocking a shot in a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The 36-year-old has appeared in 27 games, registering two goals with four assists for a minus-6.
The 17-year NHL veteran inked a one-year, $1.25-million contract with the Senators on July 1, after spending one season with the Washington Capitals, where he put up six goals and nine assists in 63 games.
Ullmark, who had struggled during the first half of the season, was granted his leave of absence on Dec. 29.
The 32-year-old Swede has a 14-8-5 record this season with a disappointing .881 save percentage and 2.95 goals-against average.
