The Sixers did an in-arena Jurassic Park promo, and the NBC broadcast terrified everyone – On Pattison

Generally speaking, national sports broadcasts on NBC are superior to every network. Sunday Night Football is as good of a production as it gets. It’s great to hear “Roundball Rock” before NBA on NBC games again this season. And there’s a good chance Sunday Night Baseball on NBC and Peacock beginning this year will be a great product.

But man, there was a really bizarre moment during the national NBC broadcast of Tuesday’s Milwaukee Bucks-Sixers game.

The Sixers did an in-arena ad for Jurassic Park during the first half of the game as the broadcast was getting ready to go to commercials. If you were watching it on NBC, though, Reggie Miller and Noah Eagle — mostly Miller — made it seem like there might be some sort of emergency at Xfinity Mobile Arena:

That clip doesn’t show the full exchange. Almost the second play ended before the commercial break, Miller said something to the effect of “something is going on in here,” and Eagle played it off, making a point about how what was going on was Joel Embiid and the Sixers were playing great ball. But Miller had some concern in his voice, and then as things went dark in the arena, Eagle seemed to as well. It’s all well and good now that we know it was just a cringeworthy promo, but perhaps a tumultuous moment in the country wasn’t the time for this type of promo.

If you watch the clip above, you might wonder whether Miller and Eagle were aware what was going on. But having watched it on TV, it seems like Miller knew the promo was coming up, and he jumped the gun the first time he wondered what was going on. So what really took place here was just an ad for a movie that really didn’t land. It’s not the end of the world, but it was in pretty poor taste all around. Also, do we really need another Jurassic Park or Jurassic Park adjacent movie?
