Statistics about unclaimed property in Maine (WGME)
Each year, tens of millions of dollars go unclaimed by Maine residents. The Treasurer’s office holds these assets, free of charge, until claimed by the owner or heir. Some of that property dates back more than 50 years, although the Treasurer says more than 3/4 of what’s collected each year is usually reconnected with its owners.
The average claim in Maine averages between $600 and $700.
