The ground continues to shift in the Mojave Desert as authorities reported an earthquake east of Barstow.
A magnitude 2.9 earthquake struck at 10:23 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, about 16 miles west northwest of Ludlow, the U.S. Geological Survey stated.
The quake was centered north of Interstate 40 in the Cady Mountains Wilderness Study Area.
Barstow resident Sheila Rogers told the Daily Press she was up watching videos on YouTube when her “swinging bird ornament” alerted her to the earthquake.
“We have small earthquakes all the time, and that little bird starts swaying the movement they hit,” Rogers said. “It’s pretty accurate.”
