ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Washington University issued an alert on Tuesday morning for an armed person on the Danforth Campus.
On the university’s website, an alert was posted at 9:18 a.m. that read, “WashU Alert: Armed person on Danforth Campus. Run, Hide, or Fight. If hide, lock or barricade yourself in a room until further notice. If off campus, stay away. Updates at emergency.washu.edu .”
About 15 minutes later, the university updated the alert to read, “Police are checking buildings in the vicinity of Brookings Hall after receiving reports of a person with a weapon. There is no confirmation of an active shooter, but please remain in place. If you see an armed person, Run, Hide or Fight. Updates at emergency.washu.edu .”
Around 9:45 a.m., all alerts were removed from the university’s website.
Five minutes later, a new alert appeared stating that police were still on the scene near Brookings Hall and other Danforth Campus buildings. The alert asked those on campus to remain in place.
First Alert 4 has crews heading to the area and has calls out to multiple law enforcement agencies to gather additional details regarding the alerts.
