Western NC school closings, delays, remote learning today, Feb. 23

Western North Carolina received another round of snow on Feb. 22 in some areas, with continued freezing temperatures expected throughout the day, prompting more school closures, remote learning and delayed start days Feb. 23. Some of the higher elevation counties near the Tennessee border are receiving weather forecasts of accumulating snow, freezing temperatures and high winds, making Monday morning travel conditions more dangerous.

Which Western North Carolina schools are closed, have remote learning Monday, Feb. 23?

Here are the latest school delays, closings, and remote learning announcements for communities in Western North Carolina. The list will be updated as more schools report notices.

School closures, delays, remote learning days

  • A-B Technical Community College (Day): Two-hour delay, starting at 10 a.m. and will remain closed tonight. All evening classes are canceled.
  • Please note that our status for tomorrow has not been determined. 
  • Asheville City Schools: Optional Workday. Students will make up this instructional day on the scheduled Teacher Workday on March 27.
  • Avery County Schools: Remote learning day
  • Blue Ridge Community College:
  • Buncombe County Schools: Closed.
  • Burke County Schools:
  • Graham County Schools:
  • Haywood County Schools: Haywood County Schools will be Cosed. Remote Learning Optional Teacher Workday. 
  • Henderson County Public Schools: Two-hour delay. All morning programs, including child care services and breakfast, will also follow the two-hour delay schedule.
  • Jackson County Public Schools: Schools closed. Optional teacher workday.
  • Madison County Schools: Remote learning/optional teacher workday.
  • McDowell County Schools:

  • Watauga County: Inclement Weather Remote Learning Day
  • Yancey County: Remote learning day. Students – check your school email, Google Classroom accounts or ClassDoJo for any additional information your teacher may provide. Middle and high school assignments may also be sent out electronically. Students please log on with your teachers at 11 a.m.
