The final eight tickets in the NCAA men’s tournament Sweet 16 were punched on Sunday and it’s going to be a Big Ten-heavy second weekend.

No. 2 seeds Purdue and Iowa State locked up their spots early in the day on Sunday with relatively easy wins. No. 5 St. John’s joined them with a dramatic buzzer-beating layup by Dylan Darling to beat No. 4 Kansas. Then, after No. 6 Tennessee held off No. 3 Virginia, No. 9 Iowa pulled off the upset of the day with a late 3-pointer by Alvaro Folgueiras. No. 1 Arizona and No. 2 UConn joined the others later, and No. 4 Alabama routed No. 5 Texas Tech.

On Saturday, No. 1 seeds Duke and Michigan coasted along with No. 2 Houston and No. 3 Illinois. No. 3 seed Michigan State and No. 4 seeds Arkansas and Nebraska also notched wins. Then No. 11 Texas moved on to next weekend with an upset of Gonzaga.

It all adds up to six Big Ten conference teams making the second weekend of the Big Dance. The league actually has at least one team in each region, so there could hypothetically be an all-Big Ten field at the Final Four in Indianapolis, too.

But that’s getting ahead of ourselves. We have our 16 teams, and the schedule is set for the next round.

The Red Raiders are on a 6-0 run as Alabama has gone cold, but Bama still leads 63-45 with 11:55 to play. A long way to go for Tech to get back in this.

The Tide are comfortably ahead after the opening stretch of the second half. Latrell Wrightsell Jr. has 6 points in the half and 15 total to lead Bama.

    Alabama 58, Texas Tech 35, early 2nd

The Bruins were competitive for the first 30 minutes or so before the Huskies overwhelmed them. You can’t help but wonder if the result would have been different if UCLA star Tyler Bilodeau were able to suit up for this one.

Alex Karaban had a monster night for UConn, scoring a game-high 27 points. Tarris Reed Jr. had another double-double with 10 points and 13 boards.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

Moments earlier, with his team attempting a comeback, UCLA coach Mick Cronin drew a technical foul.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

The Huskies are up 12 with 1:36 left and Jayden Ross has fouled out with 11 points.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

Now it’s the Huskies’ turn; they’re carving through the Bruins now. UCLA went cold and hasn’t scored in more than 3 minutes.

    UConn 67, UCLA 54 | 4:18 left

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

The Bruins have cut the Huskies’ lead to just 4 points with 7 minutes left in the game. It’s a 10-2 run for UCLA.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

It looks like our final game of the night might be headed for a blowout. Aiden Sherrell leads Bama with 10 points on 4 of 4 shooting. Tech is shooting 32% as a team and getting outhustled at every turn.

It’s more of the same in this one. Texas Tech isn’t making shots (30.8%) and the Crimson Tide are dominating the boards (26-13 rebounding). Bama leads 37-19 at the final media timeout of the 1st half.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

It’s a defensive slugfest so far. Bama has missed its last 8 shot attempts but still leads 27-12 at the 7:55 mark of the 1st half.

This game is not an offensive clinic.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

These two teams are really evenly matched. It’s 42-42 with 16 minutes left and there hasn’t been much between them since UCLA had a small lead in the early minutes.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

Utah State made a big push late but just ran out of gas. The No. 1 Wildcats move onto the Sweet 16 in the West regional.

Arizona more than doubled USU in rebounding, 54-26.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

Brayden Burries just hit a massive 3 to get the Wildcats a 73-64 lead with 2:02 to go.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

The Crimson Tide are limiting TTU to 4 of 15 shooting so far. Bama leads 20-9 midway through the 1st half.

  • Yahoo Sports Staff

Another 1 seed is in a little bit of trouble here, but Arizona still leads 66-61 with 3:24 to play. A big reason why is the Wildcats grabbing 21 offensive rebounds to Utah State’s 8.
