Temperatures in Massachusetts are expected to have some dramatic rises and falls this week, but rain is predicted to be a constant presence, according to the National Weather Service.

Lows in the low 50s are expected Monday night. There is a chance of showers across the state beginning around midnight and a chance of thunderstorms starting around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Daily high temperatures are expected to vary by region on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs on the South Coast, Cape and Islands are predicted to reach the low to mid 50s, while the Connecticut River Valley could see highs in the 70s, and most of the rest of the state is expected to see temperatures in the mid 60s.

On Tuesday, the rain is predicted to come down heaviest in the morning in Eastern Massachusetts and in the afternoon and evening in Central and Western Massachusetts. Showers are set to continue on and off through the night into Wednesday, with heavier rain coming down in the afternoon and evening.

Lows in the mid 40s to mid 50s are expected Tuesday night, with the eastern part of the state seeing lower temperatures and the western part experiencing warmer air. Temperatures are predicted to be cooler throughout Massachusetts Wednesday night, dropping into the mid 30s to low 40s.

The rain is predicted to die down in the early morning on Thursday in most of the state, but a slight to moderate chance of rain will be present across Massachusetts through at least Friday night. Skies are otherwise expected to be overcast or mostly cloudy during those days.

Highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s are predicted for Thursday. Lows in the high 30s are expected Thursday night.

Friday is predicted to be warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. The South Coast, Cape and Islands are expected to be the exception, seeing temperatures only reach the mid 50s.
