Which is the why the two groups hosting the planned forum are calling an abrupt weekend announcement from Mayor Karen Bass that she was blowing off a Wednesday night debate for a trip to Sacramento “disappointing,” especially given that the entire event was scheduled around her campaign’s specifications, former Councilmember Mike Bonin, now with the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs, said in a public post Sunday.
The debate was slated to be televised on Fox 11 between the mayor, Councilmember Nithya Raman, businessman Adam Miller, and community advocate Rae Huang. Spencer Pratt, who performed well last week in a televised debate between Bass and Raman, had a scheduling conflict, according to a statement released by the debate’s hosts.
Credit: League of Women Voters’Instead of debating her opponents with less than a month before the Los Angeles primary, Bass will be traveling to Sacramento on a host of city business, her campaign announced Sunday. “Mayor Bass will be in Sacramento on Wednesday fighting for critical state funding for housing, homelessness, and Palisades recovery, and will also discuss the city and state partnership on the Olympics and World Cup,” her campaign spokesperson, Alex Stack, said Sunday.
Stack insisted that the “people of LA saw twice last week that Nithya Raman and Spencer Pratt are not up to the job as Mayor,” Stack added. “So it’s time to move past debates.”
