Kaori Sakamoto’s retirement news conference in Kobe delivered one final surprise from one of Japanese figure skating’s most decorated stars.
“This is a personal matter, but I got married recently,” the 26-year-old skater revealed near the end of the event, prompting applause from the room.
Sakamoto said she registered the marriage on May 5, adding that her husband is the same age as her and is not connected to figure skating. The couple met while she was in university.
