Lemma says the suspect, identified as Gary Guckenberger, raised a gun at deputies surveilling the area.
The incident happened along Hatfield Court on Wednesday, about a week after receiving tips about illegal activity.
“So as we were conducting surveillance, Gary Guckenberger came out of his house,” Lemma said. “He was on a walker. He walked down to the middle of the driveway. Our detectives and investigators looked at that as an opportunity to apprehend him without incident. He immediately reached into his waistband and pulled out a .38 revolver and raised it up.”
Lemma says deputies gave clear communication to the suspect, and ultimately opened fire.
He believes deputies fired two shots, killing the suspect.
Lemma says Guckenberger was a retired Seminole County firefighter, and investigators uncovered more than 100 explicit videos involving minors.
Law enforcement is asking anyone who may have interacted with Guckenberger, to come forward.
