WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University received 86,953 applications for its incoming fall 2025 undergraduate class — the 14th consecutive year of record applications. The in-state undergraduate admissions rate remained at 71%, similar to recent years, while the out-of-state admissions rate dropped to 39%, leading to the most selective incoming class in recent history. By far the most selective public university in the state, and with 97% of all admitted students submitting standardized test scores, the average SAT score and GPA of the incoming class also set new records, at 1,337 and 3.81, respectively.
New PhD applicants jumped by 17% to a record 11,468, and master’s applicants similarly reached an all-time high of 12,717.
Purdue’s student success metrics also continue to set new records, with four- and six-year graduation rates now at all-time high of 68.3% and 84.6%, respectively. The average time-to-degree measure also reached an all-time low of 3.84 years.
“Once again, a record number of students want to join us in West Lafayette and Indianapolis, and we couldn’t be more thrilled,” said Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe. “With new student housing coming online this summer and next, we’re prepared to welcome a larger and extremely academically well-prepared class to campus next year.”
Purdue chose to admit a slightly smaller class in 2025 given the surprising jump in yield rate in summer 2024. Some international students chose to delay their starting dates while waiting for their visas. At present, 8,914 new undergraduates and 3,189 new graduate students are beginning their first semester in West Lafayette, along with 666 new undergraduates and 30 new graduate students in Indianapolis.

Purdue also is proud to welcome over 900 new transfer undergraduates this fall. Nearly half of these students join Purdue after transferring from Ivy Tech, the state’s community college system, and other Indiana institutions.
“Purdue is committed to providing numerous and varied pathways for Indiana students to become well prepared and to access outstanding, affordable higher education,” said Cherise Hall, Purdue’s vice provost for enrollment management.
With affordability and accessibility at the forefront of its mission, Purdue has kept tuition at $9,992 per year for Indiana residents and $28,794 for out-of-state students for 14 consecutive years since 2012-13.
