Chiefs Make Announcement Before Lions Game

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs saw their two-game winning streak snap in Week 5 of the 2025 NFL season, falling to 2-3 after a 31-28 loss to Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, the Chiefs will look to get back on track, hosting Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 6’s edition of “Sunday Night Football.”

Despite the slow start to the season, Mahomes is still performing at a high level. Through five games, the three-time Super Bowl champion has thrown for 1,257 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions while adding a team-high 190 rushing yards and three scores on the ground. However, in need of a win, Mahomes faces a tough challenge as the red-hot Lions, winners of four straight, come to town.

Chiefs vs. Lions marks just the third game at Arrowhead Stadium this season and the first on “Sunday Night Football.” For the occasion, the Chiefs have lined up some special entertainment, announcing that Grace Kinstler will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner,” with the Emporia Police Department Honor Guard presenting the colors. Kinstler, a Berklee College of Music graduate, was a finalist on Season 19 of “American Idol,” and has also performed at the Rose Bowl Parade.

The Chiefs also announced that former defensive end Jared Allen will serve as the game’s Drum Honoree, a tradition at Arrowhead Stadium used to kick off each home game. Allen spent his first four NFL seasons with Kansas City from 2004 to 2007, earning his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections in his final year with the team. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Finally, at halftime of the Chiefs vs. Lions matchup, the Lost Wax Band will perform a tribute to NFL Crucial Catch, an initiative that raises awareness for cancer. The Kansas City-based mashup band, featuring Eboni Fondren, Pat Woolam, Anthony Saunders and Ash Reynolds, has performed at numerous events across the United States, including a Chiefs game in 2023 and the NFL draft.

Kickoff for the Chiefs and Lions game at Arrowhead Stadium is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
