Key Points

  • Netflix rom-com Nobody Wants This returns for its second season on Oct. 23.

  • Adam Brody and Kristen Bell star as a progressive rabbi and an agnostic podcaster swept into an unlikely romance.

  • New season 2 cast members include Leighton Meester, Arian Moayed, and Seth Rogen.

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell lead the deceptively titled Nobody Wants This, which, following its debut in the fall of 2024, topped Netflix’s TV charts. It also proved an awards favorite, scoring three Golden Globe nominations and three Emmy nods.

The series follows a progressive rabbi (Brody) and an agnostic sex podcaster (Bell) whose unexpected romance throws a wrench into their lives. The rom-com was partly inspired by creator Erin Foster’s own conversion to Judaism after linking up with her husband, music executive Simon Tikhman.

“‘Write what you know’ is a trope in writing, but it’s true: when you’ve lived in an experience, you can pull specificity from it,” Foster previously told Entertainment Weekly. “When I went through the conversion process, it felt like it would be a fascinating impetus for a really good show.”

Audiences are hungry for more after binge-watching season 1, but will there be a season 2 of Nobody Wants This? What will it be about? Here’s everything we know about Nobody Wants This season 2.

Yes, Netflix announced a season 2 of Nobody Wants This shortly after its September 2024 premiere.

It was always Foster’s plan for the show to follow Brody’s Noah and Bell’s Joanne across multiple seasons. “I absolutely want another season of the show,” Foster told EW ahead of season 1’s debut. “And I definitely wrote it with a second or third season in mind, because I got plans for Joanne.”

Throughout season 1, Nobody Wants This explored the many obstacles, from specters of the past to familial disputes to career anxieties, facing Noah and Joanne’s budding romance.

It culminated with Joanne deciding that, despite her feelings for him, she’s not ready to convert to Judaism. This complicates things for Noah, who is then forced to choose between the relationship and a position as head rabbi at Temple Chai. He chooses Joanne, which will no doubt lead to some handwringing about his faith and interfaith relationships.

Per the official logline, Nobody Wants This season 2 finds Noah and Joanne “fully committed to merging their lives — and loved ones — together,” but notes that “their differences still exist and can’t be ignored.” The challenge, then, is “not just falling in love against all odds, but staying together in spite of them.”

But don’t expect the pair to crumble instantly. This is a rom-com, after all. “The genre shouldn’t be set up to frustrate you,” Foster told EW in our season 2 preview. “I think that it can be eye-opening and not just be unrealistic sweeping romance but not rob the audience of the thing that is landing for them.”

Still, Foster remains committed to exploring what happens after the kind of big romantic gesture that ended season 1. “The moment doesn’t end there. If you make a big sweeping decision, you have to deal with the consequences, so what does that look like?”

The season will also spend more time with the supporting cast, especially as their friend groups begin to merge. Joanne’s sister Morgan (Justine Lupe), in particular, will have a “big season.” Not only does she find her own romantic connection in a character played by her former Succession costar Arian Moayed, but she also finds new textures in her relationship with Joanne.

“I really see this season as being a love story between the sisters, and I think it’s so beautiful,” Bell told EW.

Girls alums Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will take over as showrunners on season 2, replacing Foster, who will remain an executive producer and writer.

“I didn’t want to change the show at all. I loved it,” Konner told EW. “The way I approach everything I work on, if I haven’t written it, is that I need an incredibly clear, strong, unique voice and that is Erin in a nutshell, so that drew me to it immediately. I was just like, ‘More of the same!’”

Is there a Nobody Wants This season 2 trailer?

The season 2 trailer for Nobody Wants This, released on Sept. 25, finds a blissed-out Noah and Joanne hitting their first speed bumps. The biggest one? The issue of faith.

While Joanne says they’re going to do the “interfaith thing,” Noah isn’t so sure.

We also see tensions flare up between Joanne and Morgan, who’s clearly jealous of her sister’s (and podcast cohost’s) “psychotically annoying relationship.”

Who’s in the Nobody Wants This season 2 cast?

In addition to Bell, Brody, and Lupe, season 2 will welcome back supporting players like Timothy Simons, Jackie Tohn, D’Arcy Carden, and Paul Ben-Victor, among others.

New additions to the cast include the aforementioned Moayed, as well as Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Miles Fowler (Bottoms), Kate Berlant (I Think You Should Leave), and Alex Karpovsky (Girls).

Meester, Brody’s real-life spouse, will play Abby, a momfluencer who’s Joanne’s “middle school nemesis.” Despite both appearing on Gossip Girl, this will be the first time the pair have actually shared the screen.

“I know Leighton’s extremely talented, but I did not anticipate what a comedic sniper she was gonna be,” Bell told EW. “She is effervescent in that episode.”

Per Tudum, Fowler’s Lenny is one of Noah’s Matzah Ballers teammates and a potential love interest for Morgan. Karpovsky, meanwhile, plays a character named Big Noah, an “overly confident rabbi” at Temple Chai.

Another surprising guest star this season is Seth Rogen, the Hollywood heavyweight behind Apple TV+’s buzzy satire The Studio.
