Georgia football coach Kirby Smart clapped back at Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, who took a shot at Smart’s weight earlier this week ahead of their teams top 10 matchup in Athens.

Kiffin was asked on Monday which of the former Alabama coordinators burns more calories on the sideline during a game.

“I don’t know,” Kiffin said. “That’s a good question. I walked by the TV and saw his press conference today. Doesn’t look like he’s burned too many calories.”

Smart, during an appearance on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show on ESPN on Friday Oct. 17, said Kiffin has been texting him all week and he had to put him on mute.

“I think he’s worried about my figure,” Smart said. “I told him, that’s my wife’s job, not his.”

Smart didn’t seem too bothered by the jab from his friend Kiffin.

“You know what, I’m all about self-deprecation,” Smart said. “I’m good with it. I told him my son got all upset when he said it. Lane texted me and said, hey, I was just cutting up. I said, no you were telling the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts.”

Smart reiterated to McAfee that he was telling officials that Auburn’s defense was clapping even though he flashed a timeout sign in a controversial moment in the fourth quarter of the Bulldogs’ 20-10 win last Saturday.

“Lane has loved that,” Smart said. “He thought it was going to be a good distraction Sunday, Monday and then he did a great thing by coming out and just blowing me up for being a fat guy with his language and took all of the attention off that. My kids got to see it. My wife got to see it.”

McAfee, sitting outside of the Butts-Mehre building overlooking the Spec Towns Track, told Smart: “I think you look great by the way.”

Smart, wearing a black Georgia hoodie: “I appreciate it. That’s why I wore black.”

Georgia and Ole Miss play Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Sanford Stadium.
