Rhea Seehorn introduces her character Carol in the first trailer for Apple TV‘s Pluribus, from writer and director Vince Gilligan. The nine-episode drama series premieres with two episodes November 7, followed by new episodes every Friday through December 26.

Pluribus has been a pretty top-secret project with little revealed about what the drama is about. Picked up in a two-season order, it follows the most miserable person on Earth, who must save the world from happiness.

And Carol is really taking to the task, grumpy throughout the two-minute trailer, while the world tries and fails to turn her frown upside down. Anyone would be elated to find a fancy breakfast waiting outside their door on a silver platter, but not Carol. She throws the entire thing into her garbage bin. There’s a point in the video when Carol reveals her desire to learn how to “reverse all this.”

A voice over a speaker says, “Rest assured, Carol. We will figure out what makes you different.”

Apple TV describes the show as “genre-bending,” and the trailer will keep most wondering which make up the series. This could be anything from comedy, sci-fi, thriller, fantasy or maybe even horror. Gilligan wants to keep viewers guessing, and this trailer definitely hits that mark.

Pluribus also stars Karolina Wydra and Carlos-Manuel Vesga, and guest stars Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte.

Gilligan previously teased about Seehorn’s character, “She plays someone who’s trying very hard to be good. She’s a bit of a damaged hero, but she’s a hero nonetheless.”

Seehorn added about Gilligan and what he brings to the series, “Some of the stuff that audiences have loved about his writing, where it’s really rich characters but also him playing with the idea of tropes and genres and tone, and switching, like injected humor in a very dark moment — in this new show, he pushes that to a limit that was both very thought-provoking and upsetting sometimes, and other times, so, so funny. It really swings for the fences.”
