Raiders sign veteran QB and former 3rd round LB ahead of opener

Monday was the Raiders final practice before officially entering game week for the season opener. Ahead of that they made a few roster moves. The team added QB Jeff Driskel and LB Brian Asamoah to their practice squad. To make room, they released S Trey Taylor and LB Matt Jones.

Driskel enters his eighth NFL season. He was originally a sixth round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Louisiana Tech. He has appeared in games for six different clubs in those seven seasons, most recently with the Washington Commanders.

Asamoah was a third round pick by the Vikings in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He appeared in 46 games with no starts over the past three seasons in Minnesota. He was most recently in camp with the Tennessee Titans.

Taylor was selected by the Raiders with the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Air Force. The Jim Thorpe Award winner saw action in nine games as a rookie. Jones was an undrafted free agent signing by the Raiders this offseason.
