Nintendo Switch 2 players looking forward to venturing through the Lands Between are going to wait a bit longer. FromSoftware announced on Thursday that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is being delayed from its 2025 release window to sometime next year.

The studio notes that while development on the Nintendo Switch 2 port “continues wholeheartedly toward release,” FromSoftware has “decided to move the launch to 2026 to allow time for performance adjustments,” according to a post on X from the Elden Ring account. “We apologize to players looking forward to the game and thank you for your patience and support.”

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition getting bumped for “performance adjustments” isn’t too surprising. Hands-on reports from Gamescom in August painted a less-than-stellar picture of the Switch 2 port. It reportedly suffered from frame rate drops and other graphical hiccups when essentially doing anything other than keeping the player character still.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is primed to be a port machine for games that the original Switch couldn’t handle. It launched with games like Split Fiction and Cyberpunk 2077, which ran very well and served as an early indicator of what the Switch 2 is capable of. Star Wars Outlaws landed on Switch 2 last month and is also a great port that holds its own on Nintendo’s hardware.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will need some more time baking in the game development oven to get to a similar place as those ports. It’ll be released sometime in 2026, and will include the base game as well as the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
